Something New

I have said (about a million times) how much I rely on routine to keep my sanity. But today I tried something new.

Pre-Run Meal:

And then had to hang out for a while before heading out the door for my 10 miles – which were very good! It was easy this morning, and I enjoyed it a lot. However, I enjoy ALL my Saturday morning runs, and the pre-run fuel didn’t seem to make much of a difference. It certainly didn’t hurt me.

Post-Run Meal:

…and water, of course.

I consider myself a pretty low-maintenance runner. I don’t run with music. I don’t run with a watch/clock. I don’t run with water. I don’t fuel before runs, and sometimes it takes me up to 2 hours to eat afterwards. The only thing I always do before runs is chug 2 glasses of water and put on my favorite running shoes. I have been running since I was 10 years old, and this is just the way things have gone.

However, after reading Angharad’s post last week about her running routine – I started re-thinking some of my habits. There is no real “reason” for doing what I do; I just haven’t done anything else. So far, today’s changes haven’t made much difference. Although, I think it may take a few hours to feel the effects of the post-run fuel. I will let you know.

Until then, I am doing a very
routine Saturday activity. Watching football and tackling a big pile of grading.

  1. When I ran, I was also reaaally low maintenance.. I can’t eat before running… it doesn’t sit well with me. And I also never got hungry for “post run fuel” til a few hours after. Glad the changes worked for you though. Have a great weekend!

  2. I thrive on routine as well! I noticed that since my teaching career began, I have become even more so a creature of habit! But you and I both know that kids thrive on routine, am I right or am I right!?

I currently cuddling with my own pile of grading, too! Oh, the life of a teacher…

  3. I’m trying to figure out what my pre-run routine should be so this posts is very intriguing pour moi! Hope the marking was a breeze and there were lots of A+’s!

  4. Thanks for the shout out! I wish I was a low-maintenance runner! That is my dream! Haha. It just so happens that my body does not love me for the strain running puts on it so I try to trick it into thinking that everything is a-okay by incorating all these fancy tricks!
Glad your ten miles went swimmingly!
