Morning Delay

I don’t have to be at school until 7:45 this morning (in-service day). That is about 45 minutes later than my normal morning starts, but for some reason – I woke up at my normal 5am and did my routine (workout, shower, etc) exactly the same as any other day.

The wonderful result of my delayed morning – I have been sitting at my kitchen table slowly enjoying my coffee, oatmeal and blog reading. Happy Friday to me.

  • 1/3 cup steel cut oats
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1/3 cup almond milk
  • Dollop of strawberry jam
  • Dollop of crunchy peanut butter
  • Cinnamon
  • Mini chocolate chips

There isn’t a much better way to enjoy the morning in my opinion…

  1. sometimes i wish i had a normal job that i could get to at 8 or 9 beacuse then i could get SO MUCH done in the morning, but today when i’m getting off work at 1:30 and have worked 8 hours, I’ll be greatful for the way my morning starts. I can’t WAIT until I am a stay at home mom and can actually make breakfast and enjoy it. Until then….my special k and soy milk will have to do.

  2. ahhhh i love when i have extra time in the mornings – it doesn’t happen often so i need to take advantage :)

    i think my fave mornings are the lazy weekend ones – sleep in, grab a newspaper & coffee, read newspaper & sip coffee & eat breakfast. hang out…blog reading in bed. yeah, i am like 70 years old :)

  3. Ah, I love slow mornings… one of my pet peeves is having to rush through my meals, especially breakfast bc it’s my fav meal of the day! I’m glad you had a lovely morning dear, and an equally fab bowl of oats, yum!!! Happy Friday!!

  4. I love eating my lovely yummy breakfast while reading blogs. Of course, I like to jump start it with some workout, but now I don’t have time for that. or the weather :)

  5. One of the benefits of working nights is that most mornings are easy going for me. I do totally miss a leisurely dinner though which I rarely if ever get! Your oats look beautiful as always. Hope you have a fun weekend planned!

  6. I LOVE my mornings. Whether I have to be at work, school, or I go to the gym early, I always make a 45 minute window for my coffee and breakfast. (Usually consisting of oatmeal and blogging as well.) Usually I eat at home, but if I’m going straight somewhere from the gym, I love eating oats and reading the paper at a local cafe or Starbucks.

    Yay for inservice! My mama is a secretary, and she didn’t have to go to school today, so we got to hang out instead.

  7. I wake up an hour before I have to leave for work, then I get up, get ready for work, and then I have a nice bowl of oatmeal or cereal while reading blogs before work! I also fix my dog’s breakfast and spend a little time with him. My work is only about 5 minutes from my house, so I don’t have to wake up super early, thankfully.

  8. That IS my favorite way to start the day! And i’ve been doing it all morning- enjoyed a bowl of oatmeal while blog-reading and drinking a cup of “cocoa coffee”…..perfection.

    Love that bowl of oats. Definitely re-making it asap :)
