My new goal is to not watch TV on Sundays (I started last week), and it’s kind of unbelievable how productive I am…embarrassing, really. I didn’t realize how much time the tube was sucking out of my weekends.
This morning, breakfast was eaten in the car on the way to church.

Two leftover pancakes, sandwiched with crunchy peanut butter.
Back home, lunch was a fantastic yogurt mess

¾ cup yogurt, 1 banana, ½ cup puffed rice, pumpkin butter, peanut butter

Plus some toasted chickpeas, and a little blondie

A rather brown (but tasty) lunch.
Then, I spent the afternoon writing more thank you notes, doing laundry, grocery shopping/meal planning, walking the (horribly behaved, annoying, hyper) dog, running to school to help a fellow-locked-out-teacher, and straightening up the casa.
In an attempt to be organized, I wrote all meals for the week on my calendar, and I figured I would share them with you – get excited for this week:
Monday: Penne with homemade vodka sauce*
Tuesday: Tuna Melt Nachos
Wednesday: Crockpot Chicken
Thursday: Savory Oatmeal – (I will remember Vegan Thursday this week!)
Friday – Grilled Tzatziki Chicken Burgers*
(*New recipes I am trying in light of my resolution)
Now I’m off to clean more or read…probably the latter. We will most likely scrounge for dinner tonight…a typical Sunday thing for us.
Enjoy the last drops of your weekend!
Do you plan your meals out in advance or just make them up each day?
If so, how do you organize them? If not…props to you. I am much to drained to think of something creative at the end of a long day.

I don’t plan my meals out. What we do is keep a variety of options on hand in the freezer (lots of fish, meats and chicken) and then that morning I always just take something out to thaw and come up with the rest later on. Thankfully my husband is not picky and basically eats whatever I put in front of him! haha! So usually we eat whatever I am craving that day…nice, huh?
Yes, I’m totally envious of your spontaneity! I have an easy eating husband, too…that makes things really nice as well.
I wish I planned out my meals
But my life is too random. Yeah I try to not to watch a lot of tv too. My some shows are too addicting!
Just got caught up on your lovely blog, looks like you have been doing some good eating, I am jealous since my meals have been rather blah lately with the exception of a few. I am with you on Sunday TV being a time suck, today I hate to say it but I watched Jersey shore on my computer and it felt like such a waste (but kind of fun)!
Do u have to ask? I am a planner! I sit down every 2 mos and plan 30 good main meals b/c Fridays are always Nacho night at our home. But I have been trying to do one meatless dish a week and lots more veggies! And some flour free for me! Its working….we have not eaten out. I take 2-3 cookbooks and choose 10 new things and then do my stand by’s , crock pot meals x 8, add soup or bean dishes! It really makes my day easier…tomorrow is Asian Chicken wraps and egg drop soup. The ‘nest’ were good…you and I would like em! Graci/Ben were like hmmm yea Ok?! ha
I am addicted to those chickpeas! I have a new obsession with the pumpkin spiced ones! I love how they get hard and delicious after roasting in the oven!! I never really organize my meals…around lunch time I think about what I want for dinner adn thats what I have! I dont really have a whole week planned out bc I go by my cravings which usually happen the day of!
Yor first pic is too cute!!
I sort of do both. I try to plan for the week, but usually end up winging some of my meals.
I always plan five meals for the week, leaving us one meal for leftovers and to go out or something more fun. It’s been going on for about 3 months and working awesome!
I really need to make the same Sunday resolution. I get sucked into bad tv and the couch every time!
No planning in our house. We’re both pretty spontaneous when it comes to dinners. We just have a lot of options at all times (usually) and come up with something each night. Most of the time it works out fine, but then some nights we’re standing around twiddling our thumbs about what to make, haha!
Have a great evening!!
I just got on the meal planning train and I’m excited for it. I’m using a google document
All those meals sound fantastic! We’ve loosely planned out our meals by keeping certain meats and vegetables in the fridge while freezing others. The trick is to make enough for lunch leftovers for both of us!
Love the pancake/nut butter sammie, btw. Brilliant!
ha, I watched about 3 hours of TV tonight (although an hour of it was 60 minutes, so I guess we can call that educational and worth-while?) anyway, you are smart to limit the TV, once you get in the habit its hard to stop. wait, that’s like most things
your dinner plan for the week looks awesome! can’t wait to see the outcome
I just got cable after not having it for a month and I’ve already noticed a serious decrease in my productivity. Good for you for staying away!
I tried to plan my meals out once. I failed miserably. I try and keep a good selection so I can cook according to my mood.
Its amazing how much you can get done with the tv off eh?
Sometimes we’ll plan our meals out a day in advance – and sometimes if there is a dish I am really wanting to make, I’ll set a “date” for it. I’ve tried to plan the whole week of meals before, but something always comes up that thwarts my plans!
Mmm…I always forget about waffle sandwiches. Such a yummy breakfast (and easily transportable which is always a plus on busy mornings!
)
I always plan out the meals for the week. Sometimes they get flip-flopped from day to day, but it’s nice to know that I have all the ingredients I need in *one* shopping trip. Makes life so much easier.
One of my favorite parts of my week is Saturday morning’s where I sit down with my cookbooks, magazines that I collect and hole punch for a binder, and recipe box and pick out what I plan on making for the week. It helps so much. Taking that hour, while I watch tv and drink coffee is not only relaxing, but so much fun. Then I make my grocery list accordingly. It guarentees that we don’t get stuck in a food rut, plus keeps our meals a lot healthier since we don’t rely on ordering our ever.
I do the same thing on Saturday afternoons – I love it!
i try to prep before i grocery shop kind of, so i know what meals i am going to make, what i have on hand, etc. and it does help. ALOT. when i don’t do it, my eating is all over the place!
happy productive day to you
Oh I am kind of doing what you are (trying new recipes) except I have accumulated so many recipes that I am now feeling the pressure of making sure that I get all of them done within each corresponding season! It is kind of fun though, and I am really upping my game and trying to have atleast one new thing every day whether for lunch or dinner. Good luck with your goals too!
yum. your meal plan made my mouth water!!
You are too funny Katie! Love the leftover pancake sandwich. And our gchat totally left me with three posts of yours! Forgottt about them.
hehe
I usually plan out my breakfasts,(because I like variety, and if I don’t plan it out, I’ll have oatmeal everyday) and I usually have an idea of what to eat for lunch/dinner, but sometimes I just go with the flow.
