Wednesdays seem to drag on…no? The longest day of the week, followed by my favorite day of the week tomorrow! I started off this long day with a brisk walk (for the doggie’s sake), and a batch of chocolate protein + almond butter.

I also took a green monster to school and drank it around 10:30 – half a banana, 1 cup of frozen (and thawed) spinach, ½ cup frozen raspberries, 2 cups water, 3 tbs. flax seeds – blended for 1 minute.

Yes, that’s an old pickle jar. I drank this while teaching and my class was thoroughly disgusted by it. I told them it was spinach juice – I didn’t really want to get into the whole explanation of a green monster.
At 11:30 – my lunchtime – I pulled some goodies out of my lunchbox, but only ended up eating the hummus and cucumber sandwich. The cucumbers were cold and hurt my teeth – but otherwise it was yummy.

The oranges are still sitting on my desk, waiting to be eaten tomorrow. I opted for another sweet treat – a mom in my class sent in a divine lemon/blueberry custard that I had for lunch dessert.

It was as yummy as it looks. (Thanks, TONA!!)
When the kids were hustled off to PE, a fellow teacher and I ran to Starbucks for a Wednesday pick-me-up.

A grande latte. I like the fat in 2% milk…it’s yummy and it keeps me full. I also had a cornbread vitatop – which was surprisingly sweet. I like sweet surprises.

At my after school job (answering phones in the office) – I ate a bag of popcorn while I graded reading tests…which is my least favorite part of my job. (grading reading tests…not the popcorn)

Actually, I have a little problem with popcorn. The taste is good – but it is so hard for me to eat! I’m sure that sounds bizarre – but I just can’t pick up a few pieces, and get them from the bowl to my mouth. Whenever I eat popcorn, I inevitably end up with popcorn all over me, the floor, and my desk. I feel like a clown, and it drives me nuts. Almost enough to deter me from eating it. Almost.
I went grocery shopping after school – which was kind of a drag, but at least we have food in the house, now!
After a 12 hour day, I really didn’t want to cook, so I had snacks – which I enjoyed just as much as I would have enjoyed a “real meal”.

½ cup plain yogurt, ½ sliced banana, 1 scoop chocolate protein powder, Kashi: honey sunshine – and I added a big scoop of crunchy peanut butter after the picture.
Plus veggies and hummus. Always a wise choice.

Highlights from the 3rd grade world…
For some reason, my class was into singing pop music today. First it was Lady Gaga, and then it quickly turned into Beyonce’s Single Ladies. However, halfway through the chorus of Single Ladies, I discovered that a substantial portion of the class thought that instead of: All the single ladies, all the single ladies…
The lyrics were: All the
scenery, all the scenery…I made them repeat it like 100 times, and laughed my head off the entire time.
What lyrics have you mistaken before??

I always thought the song “Dancing Queen” originally by ABBA (but I listened to the A*Teens version) was “Dancing queen, young and sweet, from the Philippines…” (rather than “Only seventeen…”)
I’m half Filipina so maybe that had something to do with it
I forgot to mention, I love hummus and veggies
It is annoying in the winter ’cause it’s so cold, so I like to wash ‘em down with some hot broths/soups or a nice cuppa tea.
Hahaha I was SO confused by the pickle jar at first
i love those vita tops!!! delicious
Have you ever seen the little Asian kid on youtube singing Hey Jude?
You’d probably love it!
I too have that problem with popcorn- it doesn’t stop me from taking a big handful and trying to shove it all in my mouth though– strange, I know.
I love teacher stories! In Nelly’s “Ride Wit Me,” I thought instead of “Must be the money” they were saying “Bugs be the bunny.” For SO long. I won’t even admit how old I was.
haha i love when people mess up lyrics in a song… guilty pleasure! I love 2% milk & yogurt but my tums doesn’t so I have to stick with skim everything!
I don’t know if i mixed up many lyrics as a kid so much as i made it my job to learn every lyric to songs like bust-a-move, woomp there it is, and just about every run-dmc song there was in the early nineties… My sister and i were hardcore rappers
Moms didn’t appreciate it so much… Same problem with popcorn. I can’t even pop it properly, so at least you have that down!
Hahahah I can’t imagine how grossed out the kids were by that green monster!
I’m the same exact way with popcorn!! I think the fact that it’s so airy, and grabbing a handful makes them splatter everywhere is what makes it so hard to eat. And eating it one kernel at a time is just annoying too…haha.
Too funny that the kids were grossed out by the green monster.
The bread that you used for your lunch sandwich looks delicious! I have been looking for some good bread since I moved back from Sweden. Unfortunately, the search isn’t over.. the bread over there is just so darn good.
I hate grading as well! I wish I could just teach in the classroom and had a TA to grade!
Your lunch dessert looks delish! Have a great Thursday!
Haha that’s too cute! There’s a barenaked ladies song that says “wear my heart on my sleeve” and I swear they say “wiggle my numb asleep” (cuz that makes any sense….haha)
You have great students and great parents that bring you homemade goodies! I don’t remember my parents doing that….ha!
that is hilarious you drank out of a pickle jar! I’m sure the kids were horrified by your spinach juice.
When my husband and I were dating, there were lyrics to a Coldplay song that he liked to tell me, “Your kiss is as good as your mind.” Quite the romantic…until I had to correct him and tell him the lyrics were actually “Your guess is as good as mine.”
Hahaha – I’m a lyrics freak. If I like a song I immediately look up the lyrics. But I’ve TOTALLY butchered songs before…and it’s like never even CLOSE to what it’s really saying. I’m never just a LITTLE wrong, I’m always WAY off.
But that’s too cute of your kids. I would totally laugh my head off at that. Every time I read your school stories it really makes me want to go back and get my certification.
I wish you could make my meals for me. You make me so jealous with your eats. I really have to get on board with this chocolate protein thing. It looks amazing.
Happy Thursday! I hope you had a snow day today
Where do you buy vita tops at? I’ve never had them before.
Do you know the song “Live like I was dying” by Tim McGraw?
There is a part in the song that says “I went two point seven seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu”.
At the time the song came out I didn’t know what a “Fu Man Chu” was. (its mustache, go-tee thing)…
Anyhow I used to sing it “I went two point seven seconds on a bull named blue man shoes”.
ha ha! Someone heard me and started cracking up. I then learned what a Fu Man Chu was.
I always mess up lyrics…oh well! I love “All the Scenery…all the scenery…. that is freaking funny!
hahaha, all the scenery, all the scenery!!
i bet your class was still trying to get over the fact that you were chugging down green crap to focus
You have the most awesome parents…they are always bringing you such yummy treats!!!
no joke, i have the same problem with popcorn! i never pick up one or two pieces. it’s always a handful and half of it misses my mouth!
Haha, that is tooo cute. Yet a bit disturbing that 3rd Graders are so into Gaga.
Your chocolate protein thing looks like heaven.
That is ADORABLE about single ladies! Love it!
HI! I just found your blog and love it! so cute!
Just browsing through archives- how do u make oats and yogurt? do u microwave the yogurt?? >< so confused haha!
I have that same problem with popcorn! I remember working at a temp job where I was alone in the “computer room.” I ate popcorn at the computer, totally oblivious to the mess I was making, until someone came in and made a comment. I looked down . . . around . . . popcorn EVERYwhere. What a mess.
Have I mistaken lyrics before? Why, yes, I have! I usually don’t plug posts of mine, but this one has a lot of funny misheard lyrics in the comments (the one from Elle is my favorite), so here ya go:
http://idothings.info/i-mishear-lyrics-so-you-dont-have-to/
my sister thought the line from “chestnuts roasting on an open fire” that goes “folks dresses up like eskimos” actually said “folks dressed up like kokanos” – we were all like “what exactly are kokanos?”
That’s how I feel about popcorn too! It clearly doesn’t stop me because I eat it all the time but whenever the husband glances under the couch he gets sooooo mad!

This isn’t the exact same thing, but you know the Missy Elliott song “Work it” where she sings backwards? I always sing that part, at least what I think she’s saying.
I can imagine the kids reactions to their teacher drinking spinach juice out of a pickle jar.
[...] 4, 2010 by Katie First of all, thank you all so much for sharing your mistaken lyrics with me last night! I died laughing at so many of them. I realized that I forgot to mention [...]
hahahaha…i love kids. and pickle jars. they make for such cute storage!
