Switch it Up

Hello and Happy Monday!

I tried something new this morning and didn’t work out before school. Gasp!
This really is a big deal for me, as I’ve been compulsively exercising before school/work for 8 years – it’s just how I wake up. But this morning, I was exhausted, and instead of pushing myself to do a less than stellar workout – I pushed the snooze button. I actually just finished my workout and it’s 8:01pm. It wasn’t as bad as I always imagined, but I still love the morning sweat sessions.

As a result of my less invigorating breakfast – I had a smaller-than-normal breakfast.

½ cup applesauce, a few tablespoons plain yogurt, a few walnuts, cinnamon

I also had a little oatmeal later in the morning – sorry no picture.

When lunchtime rolled around – I had leftover dinner from last night – acorn squash and chicken tenders

Last night I put an acorn squash in the oven at 350* for about 40 minutes. Today I microwave about half, sprinkled with parmesan cheese and garlic salt – and topped with two baked chicken tenders.

My snack revolved around chocolate.

A cup of coffee and a square of chocolate @ 5pm

Plus a z bar –

I was actually a little chocolated out after this – but it fueled me well through my PM workout. After 45 minutes of Your Best Buttwhich I surprisingly liked.

I wasn’t too hungry for dinner, so I had a HEAB inspired Green Monster.

  • 1 avocado
  • 4 stalks celery
  • A lot of spinach
  • 3 cups water
  • Drizzle of agave
  • Shredded coconut – for topping

This was exactly what I wanted – not to sweet, tasted like veggies, and filling!

I may or may not eat something else for dinner, but for now I’m full, happy, and watching crazy girls on The Bachelor.

  1. Chocolated out…been there my friend. Green veggie filled smoothie to the rescue. The coconut on top adds the perfect touch of sweetness, no? Glad you enjoyed your evening workout and that you allowed your body the sleep it needed this morning. :)

  4. i think it’s AWESOME that you opted not to hit the gym this morning. we all need breaks from exercise, and it sounds like yours has been a long time coming! great eats, i love zbars!

I’m just inspired that you usually get up so early to work out. I haven’t done that this winter, and so I’m desperately waiting for the warmer spring… in which I can work out after work. But maybe I’ll try the getting up extra early and do some tae bo or something.

What a gorgeous green monster!! :)

  7. I never thought of adding an avocado to my smoothie. Love the idea. I’ll bet it makes the drink nice and creamy. :D

  8. I’m a morning exerciser too. I love having the evenings free, but sometimes you just gotta sleep in!

  9. Katie says:

Im glad you listened to your body and slept in, I can never get up on Mondays, any other day of the week Im fine, but Mondays and I do not get along!!!

    Love the smoothie combo!!!

Interesting that you added coconut to your green monster! That actually sounds intriguing and quite delicious!! I always need a little square of chocolate in the afternoon with my coffee.. the sweetness of the chocolate offsets the coffee perfectly.

  11. We are such opposites – I can never bring myself to workout early! I’m too too tired!

I am really craving acorn squash now. And I seriously put garlic salt on everything!!!

  12. Kelly says:

Good for you for listening to your body! You are too cute! I bet you are the happiest person ever! :) I love it!

I love the idea of celery in a GM. I love avocadoes in them, makes for such a creamy result!

I always work out at night. Just don’t know how you do the a.m. thing so consistently. You rock!

  14. Lizzy says:

I’m a morning person, but I’ve never gotten into a morning workout routine. It probably felt good to hit snooze and try a different routine for a day!

That’s like an extra green drink… reminds me of St Patty’s Day. :)

    Chocolated out? Go figure

  17. I always work out in the morning, too, but today I hit snooze as well. I just knew a good workout wasn’t happening! Z-Bars are the best…they seriously need to give up the kiddie packaging because adults love them! Have a great Tuesday!

  18. Adam says:

Exercise in the morning is definitely the way to go… I know what you mean with the fact that it just does not feel the same otherwise. When i don’t have time, it feels like my whole day is off, but an Avocado smoothie sounds like a nutritious “treat” at the end of the day or dinner! Avocados are one of my favorites and it sucks because they are hard to find at my grocery store!

  19. I used to work out in the early a.m. and though it was very difficult for me to get up that early (5am) I enjoyed getting my work out done and out of the way 1st thing. Now I just go to the gym twice a week after work for an hour+ and then run on Saturday morning. This works best for my current schedule but if one day I can go back to mornings I will do that.

  20. The Pancake Girl says:

Okay, how did you make your squash bc yous looks way yummier than mine was tonight!

I always love morning workouts, but for some reason i can’t get myself up before week the past few months, and have been doing them after work. I hate eating din so late afterwards though!
