Babies and Missing Hunger

The baby shower was a success!

Before the guests started to arrive, I had a very thick green monster for lunch, and to prevent myself from snacking the afternoon away.

  • ½ avocado
  • ½ mango
  • Baby carrots
  • Spinach
  • cucumber
  • Applesauce
  • Vanilla soy milk
  • Water

It was super filling, and I actually didn’t eat any of the yummy food I prepared (I know it was yummy because I had it later for dinner). I have to thank Jessica for ALL the recipes for the baby shower. I actually started planning the food at 11pm the night before, and I just browsed her recipe page for ideas.

That’s the easy cheeseball there in front: cream cheese, green olives, walnuts

I also made kiwi mango salsa and cinnamon sugar pita ships to go along with it.

2 kiwis, ½ mango, orange bell pepper, red onion, ½ avocado, salt/pepper

4 sliced pitas, sprayed with non-stick spray, sprinkled with cinnamon & sugar and broiled for 4 minutes on each side

Plus White Bean Dip with Bacon

can canellini beans, evoo, paprika (I added so much that it turned orange!), salt/pepper, garlic powder, bacon crumbles

I also had lots of veggies and crackers for dipping

To be honest, I was a little nervous. I’ve never had a baby shower before, and all but one of my guests is already a mother, and so I felt a little under-qualified – but I think it was a hit. I’m not really into silly games (mostly because I’m self conscious and I don’t want to embarrass myself) – but I did have a baby themed word scramble that kept everyone busy for a while. The guests were all teachers, and it was fun to see everyone outside of school. Plus, holding a sweet sleeping baby all afternoon wasn’t a bad gig. All in all, it was a very fun afternoon!

This morning, we ran out the door to church without time for breakfast, and surprisingly I wasn’t that hungry afterwards. I figured I should eat something, so I went with a sweet potato.

I microwaved a sweet ‘tater for about 6 minutes, then sautéed it with cinnamon, sugar and peanut butter for about 2 minutes.

I’m still eating with chop sticks to slow myself down. It’s working beautifully.

Have a great last bit of your weekend! I’m off to do some laundry and relax…

  1. Beautiful food for the baby shower!!! I would copy your menu in a minute and I’ve given many showers! Glad it was fun…… Enjoy your Sunday. Snow day tomorrow???

  2. All your food for the shower looked fantastic!! I hate playing hostess for some reason. Maybe because my mom is SO GOOD at it that I feel like I can never live up to her…I don’t know. It just makes me nervous.

I roasted a sweet potato for the first time in the oven for 45 minutes for dinner – it smells so sweet & caramel-ly. I can’t wait to dig in…

    Have a good night!

  3. That GM looks so good! I still need to try putting an avocado in mine. I bet it’s awesome!!

Your spread of food looks divine!! Jess is definitely the girl to go to for amazing, crowd pleasing food!! :)

  4. don’t hate me – i just caught up on SIX posts. i don’t know how i got so behind. anyways…

did you get a new camera? your pictures are looking FABULOUSLY DELICIOUS lately.

yay for baby shower! your spread of food looks perfect, and i love that you ate sweet potato with chopsticks. i am impressed and have no idea how you managed that.

love the tales from the 3rd grade world as always – they always just give me a lil’ warm fuzzy :)

    • No, not a new camera…I have just been spending more time doctoring them up before publishing…playing with the color and whatnot. Thanks for noticing!

  5. Your baby shower pictures are awesome!!! and the food looks amazing! Did you do the mystery food in a diaper? sounds so gross but in a way I think it would be silly fun!
Hope you have a relaxing night!
    Have a good Monday :)

  6. Kiwi and mangoes in a Salsa? That would be gone in about 4 seconds flat if it was within a few feet of me… I wouldn’t even need any dippers! Is it just me or are you taking professional photography classes as well now? As if your food wasn’t perfect enough, now your pics are too? Your making us all look bad… ;)

  7. Baby shower success! That one pic of the cheese ball is funny… it looks huge! But, when I look at the other picture, it’s normal-sized.

I would be intimidated, too, but it looks like you did a really good job!

  8. What a fun party! I am also so impressed that you are still using chopsticks! It would take me 2 hours to eat once bite if I were using chopsticks! I am hopeless. My mom actually bought me some cheater chopsicks (the ones that are already attached at the bottom) and I love those!! :)

  9. What a beautiful spread you have there! I am excited to report that my lunch is very chopstick-friendly!

I’m glad the shower wen’t well for you. :)

  10. ummmm, can you host my baby shower?? (no im not preggo or REMOTELY close, but it looks like it was TASTAYYYY…). just sayin’
ps i second holly, nice camera skillz!

  11. The baby shower looks super cute! I am missing so many showers back in Portland this year! So many friends/teachers from my old school are expecting. I LOVE planning and having showers…so much fun!

I wanted to comment on today’s post but I saw something about the Bachelor and quickly closed the page because I have not watched it yet. We are 9 hours ahead of West Coast (where our tivo records) so it aired at like 5 am our time. My friends are coming over after school to watch and I am so excited! I will definitely post about my reactions later today. Can’t wait.

PS I really wish I had a blender to make a green monster. Well I have one, but not with a European plug so I can’t use it here and we didn’t want to get duplicates of all of our appliances. I am excited to go back to the US and try out some of your recipes and different nut butters I hear about on blogs all of the time!
