Spontaneous Saturday

First, I have to thank you all for your incredibly kind comments regarding the crazy mom. After a few days to reflect on the situation, I realized that I shouldn’t have been so judgmental. It felt good to vent, but as a teacher, it’s not really my place to criticize her parenting – whether I agree with it or not. All I can do is care for and teach her child while she is under my care. Whew…I feel better.

So yesterday, after a long run and a lot of coffee drinking (that’s what Saturdays are made for, in case you didn’t know) – Meeker and I made a spontaneous trip to Breckenridge, CO to visit a friend of mine who was there skiing with her family. We didn’t ski (lift tickets prices have jumped to $90!!) but it was fun to get away, eat dinner with she and her family, and just catch up! I forgot my camera…boo…but trust me there was good food and a lot of fun.

With my belly full of the above fruit and coffee, I’m off to church! I hope you all have spectacular Sundays.

Did your brother make that bowl too? Because you should tell him I think he’s a freaking genius! I’m glad you feel better about the mom.

I couldnt get through a Saturday without a LOT of coffee!

I love that bowl! So pretty.

  3. I originally came across your blog because I was reading food and health blogs, but ultimately added you to my blogroll because of teacher reasons. Your love for your work and your kids really comes through in your writing! I’ll bet you are a great teacher, and all of your experiences (the good and the bad), and your ability to reflect on them will just continue to make you a better one!

I’ve heard Breckenridge is awesome.. Random trips are the best kind!

Spontaneous trips so often turn out the best

  6. It’s so hard not to pass judgment on parents sometimes. I had a student make a pretty racist comment last semester and all I could think the entire time was that he learned it at home.

I’m so glad you got to have a fun, spontaneous weekend trip! Enjoy your last few hours of freedom tonight!

  7. What an amazing looking fruit bowl! Breckenridge is a great town, glad you had fun!

I’m sure as your teaching career continues, you’ll have a lot more ‘crazy mom stories’ to tell us. Haha! I don’t think you’re being too judgemental though. You obviously care about your students, and if the girl isn’t able to come to class as a result of bad parenting, someone should do something. I don’t know what but something……

  9. beautiful pics! btw EVERY time i see your blog title i smile. just thought you should know :)

Well if there were a teacher of the year award i am sure it would go to you, i think 9 news does something along those lines (if i remember correctly)… But if not you should win a lifestyle award or something, because i can’t think of a better way to spend a weekend than with family, in Breck, at church, eatin’ bowls of fruit after a long run…

  12. ” a lot of coffee drinking (that’s what Saturdays are made for, in case you didn’t know) ” = MY DAY TOO! Always on Sat/Sun extra ‘jo for me.

  13. sat really are for drinking more coffee! thats sfunny that you say that because I always find myeslf drinking more on the weekends, in teh morning and again in the afternoon! I guess your body craves extra caffeine on the relaxing days ;)
