A Teeny Tahini

Thanks for all the well wishes about my breakfast mishap this morning! The kicker is that I should have already learned my lesson, because I’ve done the exact same thing with jalapeños before. Ick – that one was waaaay worse. Rest assured, my wasabi eye is just fine.

Lunch was a monster of a salad.

lettuce, bell pepper, broccoli slaw, almonds, shredded carrots, tortilla chips, spicy mustard, bbq sauce

There were three birthdays in third grade today! I had one bite of one cupcake, that’s my birthday policy. Otherwise I’d be eating upwards of 100 cupcakes a year.

My real snack was better, actually…ww tortilla, walnut butter, cinnamon, cayenne pepper

For dinner, something I saw Heather eat today…it totally peaked my interest, I had to try it – and was so glad I did! I started with this teeny tahini sample

Slathered it on a ww tortilla, added bacon and a drizzle of agave…

Holy yum!

I also had a broccoli slaw salad with my favorite dressing as of late.

spicy mustard and bbq sauce

In the 3rd grade world…

I’m not sure how this conversation came up, but some kids in my class were talking about how they had tried beer/wine before. Most kids agreed that both were disgusting. I agreed with them – I have no taste for any kind of adult beverages. When I told them this, one little boy said…

“When you grow up and have kids, you’ll probably need beer and like it”

  1. Wine is a great drink post kiddos! I have about 1 glass a month and one dark beer a month! I hate drinking my calories! I made the Purple cabbage, bacon, onions, balsamic from 5 ingredient fix and it was sweet/savory and a big hit!!

  2. I love kids. You should write a book one day all about “the things you hear in a 3rd grade classroom.” That tiny tahini jar is so cute… *AHEM* I mean, it’s cool. haha. I would buy those samples just for the jars. I have this strange collection of odd looking containers/jars that i stockpile pennies in. I could seriously spend hours in “the container store”. Ah, another reason i miss Colorado. Anyyways… let me get to the point, your tortillas look great! :) And is this a home-made sauce? Or is this a sauce you can ONLY get in Colorado? Because i will add that to my list of reasons to move back there as well if that is the case. I love any kind of mustard, and bar-b-q sauce, and well…sauce in general! :)

  3. omg!! Kids say the funniest things!!!!! Oh my!! It would be a blast being a teacher for the younger grades!!! So cute!!!

    Have a great week!! xoxo

  4. I can’t believe most third graders have tried beer or wine…I wonder if my parents had given me a sip when I was that age. I can’t remember. I don’t like the way either taste…guess that will change when I grow up. ;)

So glad you enjoyed the tahini bacon combo. I think I might just eat that for breakfast this morning.

    Enjoy your Tuesday!

  5. Hey! I just recently started reading your blog.

I love your “In the 3rd grade world…” stories. That one was hilarious :D !

  6. i have actually been meaning to pick up some tahini, i loved it on a mediterranean pita that i ordered the other day.

haha i love hearing the things that little kids say, they are so brutally honest!

  7. haha…too cute :)

ummm tahini, bacon and agave? i NEVER would have put those together, but i can see that sweet n’ saltiness coming right out in that dish.

    happy tuesday lady!

  8. First thanks so much for your kids story – it was adorable and definitely made my morning! :-)

Also I love your idea of the ww tortilla, walnut butter, cinnamon, cayenne pepper and can’t wait to try it!

    Thanks for the tip!

  9. I agree, you should write a book! My parents were very open about us trying alcohol as kids, as it usually doesn’t matter anyway, kids don’t really like it that much.

  10. I just wanted to say that I usually enjoy reading your blog; I love your food choices and as a fellow 3rd grade teacher who is close to your age I can relate to your school stories. However, I am disappointed in your 3rd grade news today. I find it disgusting that 3rd graders were discussing the fact that they have tried alcohol and rather than tell the students that is inappropriate and NOT okay, you tried to be their friend and AGREED with them!!! That is shocking to me and I hope there is more to the story.

    • Yikes, maybe I should have presented a little more background. The students were referring to sips of alcohol that their parents had given them. I know my student population well, and am very close with many of the families of my students. The students were not referring to “underage drinking” – which I do not condone at all. I apologize for the misunderstanding. I hope this makes the store my palatable for you!

  11. Haha, I love kids. They tell it like they see it!

PS. I love your blog and your simple, real way of approaching nutrition and fitness! :)
