Wind Blows.

Happy Thursday, best day of the week! My April fools was filled with silly eight-year old tricks (Mrs. Unger my I forgot my homework…April fools!!)

I started early with this apple at about 5am…

But this shiny little friend was playing a joke on me…it was mushy and icky. So, I gave it to Punky after our morning walk

I wore her out this morning, and she curled up and fell fast asleep after her fruity breakfast. Then I made something fruity for myself.

Mango, ½ banana, frozen spinach, frozen strawberries, protein powder, water

I also had ½ ww bagel with peanut butter while I was teaching my math class about pie charts. Later on during lunch…

An absolutely fantastic sweet potato with a mix of hummus and cottage cheese in the middle. Ahhhhh, this was so good!! I might have the exact same thing for lunch tomorrow.

Unfortunately, my afternoon snack was less thrilling.

EEeeew, that blueberry Z Bar was so gross!! (Or as The BFG would say…uckyslush) The behind honey ww pretzels were great, but I’ve been burping up that nasty bar all afternoon. No bueno. I’ll stick to the chocolate kiddie clif bars.

After school, I went for a quick hill workout. I ran about a mile warm-up, sprinted up a hill 8 times (jogged down), and then home again. I felt great, BUT the wind was insane.

25mph winds in your face make running up a hill very difficult. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again…I really dislike spring.

Another down side of that Z Bar (or at least that’s what I’m blaming it on…) is it gave me a very upset tummy. When I eat fruit + grains together, my stomach revolts in a major way. I think I’ll hold off on dinner for a while. Meeker will just have to scrounge, which makes me feel bad, considering he bought me these beautiful flowers after my hissy fit on Tuesday.

He’s a keeper.

In the 3rd grade world…

Penguin boy raced up to me this morning to tell me that the whole “Mumbo Story” was a giant April Fool’s joke.

Personally, I think he just came up with the elaborate lie (which I fully appreciate), and then lucked out with April Fool’s day being a few days later. It’s very convenient that the only day in which it’s acceptable to lie to your teacher happened to be a few days later. But for some reason, I just don’t think that was his plan when he first introduced me to his Antarctic pet at the beginning of the week.

Your thoughts?

  1. Glad a better day beckoned you today. Here in DE it was 72 and sunny; being in a better state, like CO, gives you a +30 degrees edge, so you win that one; my wife is always leary of red delicious apples because of the mush factor (if that is a r.d. apple); a customer on my postal route got me: “You dropped a letter… no behind you…no behind you…no behind you… April Fools!” as I spun like a top on her porch for 10 seconds. Happy April 1st!

  2. Meh – I’m never a big fan of fruit bars. I like mine with chocolate or PB or BOTH!

I have a weird feeling about the penguin story. Do you think someone told him to tell you it was a joke? I’m suspicious…

  3. A) I hate mushy apples, especially when they give the appearance of being crunchy and delicious. Sometimes when I get a mushy one I close my eyes and pretend it’s a pear. That makes it a little better.

    B) Sorry about the wind. It was 81 in Chapel Hill today. I was hot.

  4. i think he got caught up in the lie and felt really bad about lying to you. i imagine he’s had sleepless nights about how to tell you the truth and april fools day was just so convenient for him!
…i was kind of hoping he was telling the truth! how cute would that be :)

  5. The Z-bar burps could have been worse i guess, at least they weren’t whizzpoppers from drinking too much frobscottle! ;) I love how you refer to the kid as Penguin Boy now similar to his little Balloon pal. What a little bugger. I had this whole explanation mapped out in my head, and even dreamt of one day rescuing a penguin of my own… What a buzzkill. Tell Penguin Boy to watch out for The Childchewer!

  6. I agree – wind does blow. When I reach the part of my run by the water in my town it’s just terrible!

Also – I’m So excited to try hummus + sweet potato – that idea is genius!!

Mike was talking about you again (he reads your blog completely on his own, haha) last night and referred to you as “Cake Katie” and I told him that you loved that nickname. He was quite pleased with himself.

Have a great Easter weekend friend!!

  7. What a little weirdo – he sure lucked out on that one! I used to make up random crap all the time when I was little – for some reason I always liked to fool people into believing things?? Had he done this before?

Anywho – love those combos on your sweet potato, cottage cheese + hummus is one of my favorites. I wonder if the whole fruit/grain deal is what my issue is too. It’s so hard to pinpoint sometimes when I eat multiple food groups at one sitting.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  8. I know that there is definitely a book about a family keeping a penguin. I remember reading it back in elementary school, all the details you’ve shared remind me of that book. Perhaps he got the idea there?

  9. Hmmmmmm, if he did come up with this whole plan for April Fool’s Day, he must be a sharp little guy. That would take a lot of thinking outside the box for a 3rd grader!!

  10. That’s some insane weather that you had. Man today for me was in the 80s. I don’t know what I would do if it got back in the 40s again. Your sweet potato plus hummus and cottage cheese is an awesome combo! I must try it.

  11. Wind Blows. Oh man I totally know the feeling. It’s been the EXACT same way in Oklahoma!

oh, and I love Punky. What a cute name for a german shepherd!

  12. Oh, those eight year olds! I’m guessing the Mumbo story is a joke, because I can imagine doing that myself when I was a kid!

I’ve never liked the blueberry flavor of ZBar – ick. Have you tried Honey Graham? I think that one is pretty good!
