Good morning all! I started by day with that speed workout that I’m hooked on, and then came home for an outstanding yogurt mess.
Fage Greek Yogurt (my favorite), ½ vegan energy bar, ½ date muffin, coconut butter, carob chips and cinnamon
It seriously tasted like a creamy, delicious dessert. I love. Now I’m off to make a big cup of coffee and then head to school. Today is the 11th anniversary of Columbine, so we won’t have kiddos in the building, but it is a very somber day in Colorado. Here’s to smiling anyway. There is always good to be gleaned from tragic situations, and I intend on being cheery despite the sadness that surrounds the education world today. I hope you also make it a fantastic Tuesday!

That is so great to hear that there are teachers like you out there that find such positive aspects of even the most negative events… You are the perfect example of what every kid needs today! I can still remember where i was 11 years ago, sitting in my 5th grade library in Aurora… Our school was on lock down and at least half of my class was crying and incredibly frightened… I will never forget that day, coming home and seeing my whole family there which was unusual… I hope you enjoy your day and keep smiling
Isn’t it weird how you ALWAYS remember details surrounding events like that?! I was in my school library, too. What a sad, crazy day that was. Thanks for the “smiling encouragement” !
Fage is the best!
Monday was a memorial day in Oklahoma as well, very somber but I kept a smile on, too.
Have a good day!
You’re a FAGE lover!? I never knew! I think it might be my least favorite of all the Greek brands, but I might have to give it another try now that I find out it’s my real life best friend’s favorite!
That yogurt mess looks amazing – I think I may have to make one myself pretty soon…I’m in a bit of a food rut.
I’m glad you had a good speed workout – though I think you’re totally crazy (in a good way!) for doing them!
Mike and I became obsessed with reading all about Columbine after we read Wally Lamb’s “The Hour I First Believed.” It’s an amazing book. Anyway – I hope you’re able to smile through this day! I’ll be thinking of you!
I wasn’t in highschool in Aurora at the time of Columbine but not that earlier prior so it touched me greatly when I saw it on the news………as my school looked similar to Columbine’s. Very Sad Day! =(
It really is hard to remain cheerful on days like that. Yesterday was the anniversary of the OKC bombing, and you could feel the somber aura all throughout the city. In a way it’s kind of beautiful though, to feel the same emotion that thousands of others are feeling.
That yogurt mess looks amazing!!
I actually would have thought columbine was an older event; I don’t even remember it happening. Any way, enjoy what you can of the day!
Oh wow, I totally forgot about Columbine today…has it really been 11 years already? I remember reading the Time Magazine on it when I was 9, and my parents freaking out because they thought I was too young. I’m sure it’s a somber day, keep that smile on love!!
Thanks for the uplifting words today. I remember that day vividly. It is so good to know there are people out there like you that are determined to make the most of every day. Kepp up the great work, and thank you for sharing!
PS – Have you ever tried greek goddess yogurt? My new favorite!
So strange that it’s already been 11 years. I was in 6th grade when that happened, so I feel kind of old when I think about it.
Wow…I can’t believe that Columbine was 11 years ago.
I was teaching a Rhetoric class at the University of Illinois and when I came out of class, one of my office mates and fellow TAs told me about it. My wife and I watched the story unfold the rest of the day . . . may those of you closer to the even be blessed today.
Now that I see all these “I was in 5th grade” type of comments, I feel like the old fart of the comment list. I may need to find a foodie/slice of life blog for old fogeys . . . .
I don’t live in CO, but I remember exactly where I was when Columbine happened….I was leaving golf practice in high school and dropping another girl off at her house….we both just pretty much stopped talking when it came over the radio. Thinking of you!
wow cant believe its been that long…I remember everything about that day, where I was in school and how eveything just…stopped.
Thinking of you and your kiddies
I love Fage, too! So thick and creamy, I could eat a whole bucket probably.
Thinking of you and your state today. Columbine is one of those events that I will always remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news. xoxo
