The next big thing

Whee!! Good morning! I started mine off with an incredibly sweaty spin class at 6 this morning. Now I’m feeling energized and ready to tackle the day. I ate a banana before spin, and then came home to shower and cool off/rehydrate with watermelon…

And trail mix and coffee. Neither of those helped with the re-hydration, but they tasted good.

Walnuts, almonds, PB Bumpers cereal, coconut, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds (on the bottom)

I love coffee.

Okay, so the last challenge I made for myself was running fast. Done. I can now run fast. However…

I have a confession: I cannot do one single push-up.

Sure, I can do them from my knees, and I can do a wimpy version from my toes where I only go about halfway to the floor, but I want to be able to do REAL push-ups. Like military style two-inches-from-the-ground push ups. So my next big thing is going to be a push-up challenge! I know Teri did one of these a while back, but I was to chicken to join in, so I’m doing it now.

I will be able to do at least 25 consecutive push-ups by the end of this month. (I’m scared just typing that.) When I accomplish that goal, I will up the number to 50. I’m really scared, but I’m going to do it anyway. Care to join?

Also, keep those questions coming!! What do you want to know about me??

  1. I think you can definitely do it! The best tip I was every given was to do 50 pushups a day. Anyway – like 5 sets or 10, 10 sets of 5, regardless, do them everyday. I’ve been doing that since I was 14!

  2. I often reside to the “girl pushups”. I can’t do many real ones before I lose it… lol

I wish you luck on the challenge- I may not join, but you’ve inspired me to start throwing a few more into my workout every week!

  3. I’m in. I’ve been slacking in the upper body department after I finished a 6 week weight training program back in May. I miss how strong I felt, but the 2 hours at the gym after a 12 hour day really got to me and put me off of the gym. And I won’t have to go the gym for this :D .

  4. I would like to partially join that challenge ;^) Since I can barely do 10 girlie push ups from the knees (with pretty good form) I will get that number up to 40 a day by the end of this month! Thanks for the push :o ) ~ Liz

  5. great goal! i’m actually focusing on my pushups too. i go chest to ground, pec to deck. max set for me is 13, with perfect form and no sagging. you’ll get it! i finally got a pullup!

  6. I’m in for your challenge-I’m on a break from bootcamp where we do a ton of pushups and after 3 weeks I can tell I’m losing strength! I go back Aug 2nd-I need to be ready to go!

  7. push it, girl! when you focus on push ups, you do progress rather quickly. Squeezing out that last rep can be a mind-thing sometimes. Mind over push-up!

  8. Dudette, that’s a great idea! I’ll join ya – I’m just beginning a workout regime that includes one day where the workout consists near entirely of push ups and chin ups – neither of which I can do. Yet.

    Grrl Power! :)

  9. I have that same mug from anthropologie- love that store! Oh and I obsessed with your red bowls too – red is the accent color to my living room!

I actually had the same push-up problem too. I started doing p90x a little while back and before I knew it I was a rockstar at push-ups. p90x incorporates A LOT of push-ups and pull-ups so I guess I just got better by doing them over and over. Well what I am trying to say is… if I could learn how to do a push-up- then you def can!!!!

Yesterday was my last day with my students- I am free for summer too now! No more being jealous of you haha ;)

  10. That’s an awesome goal :) And I’m SO jealous you went spinning, I went to my last spin class in San Fran yesterday :( gonna miss it so much!

  11. Girl, I can’t do a push up to save my life! I can do the girlie push ups all day though Haha :)
Good luck with that! Just think how toned your arms will be after!

  12. Heck yes for upper body strength! I *was* probably one of the weakest people you know a few months ago. Then I started incorporating yoga, and now strength training into my routine, and now I feel POWERFUL. Good luck, you can do it!

  13. mmm watermelon and coffee! two of my favorites.

i can kind of do a pushup but im not sure it’s a “real” or correctly done one, meaning, i can’t touch my nose to the ground without collapsing (is that necessary? i’m not sure) but its something i really need to work on too!!! for now, i stick with girly pushups and i STILL hate doing those!!! keep us posted on the pushup endeavors =) great encouragement for the rest of us

  14. I was just thinking how wimpy my pushups are! So yes, I will join you in your quest to to 25 push-ups by the end of the month. Though that is pretty scary. :) Way to raise the bar!

  15. Chatarungas (sp?) are a noce little primer for push ups! I love that you’re making challenges for not only yourself, but also inviting others to join. That’s so thoughtful of you!

    Happy push-upping :)

  16. you can make you push up goal! I suggest doing some planks as well..that will REALLY help. I have a little story of this myself: being the smallest girl in highschool..no one thought I would be able to do the push ups at the end of the year..well little did everyone know that I do YOGA 3x a week..and I did 50 push ups without stopping..I was proud. If I can do it..you can!! ..it may take time..good luck!!!
