Bad Planning

I know I’ve written a post on this same subject before, but today I food planned so poorly. It started out okay…

Banana cut in half with peanut butter, flax seed and rolled oats

Sandwiched up and eaten in the car

Then for lunch (here’s where I really failed at the food-planning thing)

1 cup veggies (edamame + broccoli slaw) + cantaloupe

In hindsight, my lunch, weighing in at a whopping 218 calories was supposed to hold me over for 10 hours. Well…it didn’t. In fact, my lunch made me hungrier than I was before I ate it. Luckily, I found some microwave popcorn in the bottom of my bag and ate that, but still, I was about to gnaw my arm off all day. When I got home, I ate anything I could get my hands on.

Polished off both of these things.

Then a couple of dates + peanut butter (on top of an Eating Well magazine)

When Meeker walked in from work, I was staring into the pantry, just willing something to pop out and ask me to eat it. He saw the distress hunger in my eyes and suggested we go out to dinner to celebrate my favorite day of the week.

Done. A chicken fried rice order as big as my head from Mark Pi’s.

Plus a lettuce wrap.

As hungry as I was, I scarcely made a dent in the carby wonderfulness.

The after picture. I had enough leftovers to fill TWO to-go boxes.

I just finished packing my lunch for tomorrow (you can bet it included a box of leftover fried rice), and I crammed my lunchbox full of food, just to avoid the hunger I felt all day today.

Happy almost Friday!!

I know that you are big on veggies as the main part of your lunch, but I have found that I HAVE to have a combinations of food at lunch or else I will NOT make it until dinner without passing out. For example, I have a turkey sandwich w/ cheese, cooked broccoli (weird I know, but I dont like it raw), fruit (usually pineapple or cantaloupe), yogurt, and pretzels. That might sound like ALOT of food, but it is all healthy and it has to get me through my 9 hour work days/ school days. Good Luck with lunch tomorrow and I am sure that you will enjoy the dinner leftovers immensly!! :)

I hate packing food for work too because I always underestimate. I pack it right after breakfast when I’m full. I need to realize a lot of it is thirst too, water, water, water!

Oh man, I hate days like this! It’s so frustrating to be hungry and not be able to do a darn thing about it. I’ve found that, no matter what meal or snack I’m eating, I have to include some protein or I’ll never make it for more than two hours. I love veggies, too, as long as there’s a nice portion of protein sitting right next to them. :)

Boo hoo…our favorite rice hut in the world! That looks so good! I will show Graci your pics! We have to find a rice hut here!

  5. I hate the issue of when you eat a little something that’s supposed to tide you over and it actually just makes things that much worse! It’s like I might as well not eaten at all!

  6. Kerry says:

mm i love chicken fried rice!

  7. I never ever pack enough. EVER! If I end up packing more, I just eat it earlier.

Ugh, I hate it when I don’t bring enough food to work!! There’s nothing worse than feeling super hungry and realizing that there’s no food around to eat.

  9. I hate days like that – I look at my lunchbox and am like…’are you kidding me? what was i thinking?’

Glad you combatted it for today!!

  10. Places like that are the best. Although I must say, I always ruin the dish by eating out all my favorite parts so all that’s left is the rice. Perfect way to end a hungry day though!

I hate that feeling! My husband doesn’t understand how I can be starving and not want to eat something, but I only want to eat something that will make me FULL, eating something small makes you even hungier! Fried rice leftovers sound amazing though; happy Friday :D

I do that all the time. Luckily there’s usually stuff laying around the office to tide me over, but it’s still miserable.
LOVE fried rice, especially as leftovers.

  13. I hate that “gnaw your arm off” kind of hunger. Not fun!!

  14. I hate the feeling of being so hungry and not at home so you suffer!

  15. Nic says:

Your yesterday sounded like my morning! It started off normal with a little snack and a workout, then morphed into a full on snack attack for breakfast! Strange how those things happen…

  16. Planning ahead really does make a difference! Here’s to hoping for a less starving day! :)

  17. I hate days like that! I do it all the time – I think I’ve got plenty of food and want to chew off my own foot all day long. Or I’ll pack lots, hardly touch it and then think “oh well, I dont need that much tomorrow”. I should really fill my desk drawers with food just in case.

The best filling lunch that works for me is a can of tuna or salmon and garbanzo beans. It is so yummy and filling! I wish I could have it everyday but that could get expensive. :)

  19. gahh I hate when that happens!! hunger is such a wierd thing! i can be so satisfied all day one day adn the next I am ravenous no matter WHAT i eat! glad you refueled with some chinese delicousness :)

UGH I hate that feeling- lately I’ve been struggling with what to pack for lunch at work because it seems like I can’t think of stuff that’s transportable and filling enough without a kitchen. I feel like i get hungrier at work haha and me being hungry = crankypants. I would def feel better with that plate of fried rice though, that’s for sure.

    Have a lovely Friday lovey!

Lady, I feel like lunches at the end of the week are the worst, if for no other reason than you either have too many leftovers in the fridge, or not enough, and you’ve already eaten your faves M-W. Today I was definitely rockin’ the all veggie (no meat or cheese) salad and then the shortbreads from the bottom of my desk so I could survive until dinner at our favorite seafood place!

The banana looks good but I read somewhere that flax seed doesn’t do you any good unless it is ground like coffee or pepper. Your body can’t digest it and it just passes right through you. I don’t know, that’s what I read. Great site and I love all the photos.
