Food and Family

I hope you all had fun labor day weekends! Mine was full of food and family…just like it’s supposed to be, right?

Today I woke up, and ate breakfast, which is kind of unusual. Usually it takes me a couple of hours and some exercise to work up an appetite.

Spinach, banana, ½ peach, blueberries, water, almond milk

I drank this while reading my latest Rachel Ray magazine – which Evan is featured in!! I screamed aloud when I saw his face. Pretty dang cool.

Then I lesson planned for the week, worked out, then went to a bbq at my in-law’s best friend’s house.

This was my plate. However, I didn’t eat the bratwurst (just wasn’t feeling it), and had about 5x the amount of fruit you see. Yum city. We spent the afternoon there, and then came home and I napped away the rest of the day. When I awoke, I graded papers and then Meeker and I went on a massive grocery shopping trip. We have soooo much produce!! I’m a happy, happy girl.

For dinner, I only wanted one thing.

Yup, ½ a watermelon for dinner. I have to get my fix while they’re still available!!

What’s one fall food you’re looking forward to? So many!! Fall is my favorite “food season” – apples, squash, soup, mmm, I’m feeling cozy just thinking about it!

  1. Ha, I can’t count how many “1/2 watermelon” dinners I’ve had this summer! I’ll miss the corn on the cob, melon, berries and such, but I’m looking forward to apples and pumpkin in everything! Pumpkin ice cream’s almost here!

  2. Watermelon for dinner, huh? I may have to find 1 just so i can eat it the way you do… But that would not be enough to hold me over for more than 20 minutes, watermelon and me aren’t tight for that reason alone! Kabocha squash and pie pumpkins obviously! Oh and EVERY single kind of apple imaginable. :) Have a great week, have you guys finished Matilda yet? I say you do a Tour De Dahl this entire year and read a ton of his books to your kiddz!

  3. Watermelon! Lately it is my safe food and I am loving it! The hubster rocks and yesterday went to a second store (and paid like twice as much) to get me one of the small round ones instead of slices because I like to eat it just like that!!! He is so good to me!

  4. I recently subscribed to your blog and just wanted to let you know that I love it! The “In the 3rd Grade World” section always makes me laugh and keeps things unique.

    I’m excited for Fall soups and chilis and warm comfort foods. I will miss Summer’s smoothies and ice cream though. :( (Although, let’s be honest, I’m probably still going to eat my fair share of ice cream year round.)

  5. That’s a hard one… I think I’ll missed berries, especially blueberries!

    I am looking forward to pumpkin, squash, honeycrisp apples and hot cocoa!

  6. Oh man I’ll miss coconut!!!!!! I may even attempt to eat it throughout the entire winter in hopes it’ll send me back to the beach when it’s snowing and below freezing outside!

    But I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE autumn and can’t wait for anything pumpkin! Right now I’m obsessed with pumpkin mousse. Holy cow!
