More City

So, Meeker and his family and I went to New York City for his cousin’s wedding. I feel so lucky to have a family of in-laws that included me on a fun trip like this. Besides celebrating the marriage…

The happy couple – Sharon and Kyle – congratulations!

Meeker and I at the wedding

…we ate a lot of good, good food (and not just pizza and bagels, I promise). Think swanky Italian restaurants, steakhouses, and yummy brunch menus.

Saw the city on foot…

Bought Meeker the first scarf he has ever owned…

‘I’m wearing a scarf’ face

Found this Christmas tree ornament (!!)

Bought it even though we don’t have a Christmas tree. (How could I not?!)

And one of the major highlights of the trip was meeting Caitlyn from Cait’s Plate!!

Remember her??! I was obsessed with her and her blog (which is no longer in existence) – and we have kept in touch over the past year. She and her boyfriend (whose name also happens to be Mike) and Meeker (my Mike) and I sat talked for over an hour like old friends. It was like we had known each other forever – we are basically the same person – and I gushed about how much I loved them both for the rest of the trip.

We went to Le Pain Quotidien, where I got a pumpkin muffin (delicious) and decaf coffee.

Like I said, I feel so blessed to have been included on this little vacation, and enjoyed every second of it. It is probably the last trip Meeker and I will take before Baby Cakes arrives, so I’m happy to have had the time! Plus, I’m just head over heels in love with New York City.

Have you ever been to NYC? Is city living for you or not?

  1. Love NYC, but I don’t think I could live there.
It’s a fun place to visit though. I consider myself more
    a small-town girl.

I used to follow Cait’s blog as well…I think that’s how I found
    yours.

  2. I’m so glad you like NYC, because I do not, and I always feel guilty! Basically, my hometown in Connecticut is right between Boston and New York, but it’s much easier to take the train to NYC. I’m burned out from one too many trips to the big museums and galleries during my elementary school years; my mom’s side of the family is full of art collectors. I love Boston, though, and I hardly ever get up there!

  3. I love NYC !! I lived there for 2 years and plan to move back for grad school ! I am a city kid so NYC just embodies everything I am about

  4. Aw – what nice comments above about the people that used to read my blog! Don’t worry guys, I might be back sometime in the future if my schedule gets a little less hectic :)

I miss you so much already!! I can’t wait to come visit you guys, shoot things and get to see all the cool things Colorado has to offer :) In the meantime however, I will still encourage you guys to move here. Tell Meeker there are lots of sports teams that he could be a trainer for!! Haha.

PS – That ornament is so perfect. You HAVE to get a tree for it!!

  5. Ack, that ornament! How serendipitous!

It seems like you guys got in a great “last” trip. I’m a bit biased, but I think NYC is kind of the best spot for any trip :)

  6. Moving from Colorado to NYC is such a HUGE change… but I have to say I love it in NY! There is so much to do and so much to see… and such AMAZING food!

  7. oh nyc. i dont miss it for a second. you really cant understand what its like to live there. to visit is a blast. the city is amazing as a vacation destination, and i can even see it being fun as a student. but its not the lifestyle i could ever keep living for very long. i hate to sound like a downer, but that goes to show you how much i have realized since leaving. working there you dont enjoy everything the city has to offer…and it has a LOT to offer. but i dont know really any people in the working world that did any of that. its exhausting. im soooo glad to be living it up in ca now with fam and friends. such a better fit for me :)

  8. aw cait! i am so glad to hear she is doing well and that you fully enjoyed your trip to NYC. such a fabulous town :)

p.s. did you go to the actual babycakes bakery?!?!?!

  9. I read the comment about talking like you were old friends and immediately thought “I like to start my notes to you as if we’re already in the middle of a conversation. I pretend that we’re the oldest and dearest friends — as opposed to what we actually are, people who don’t know each other’s names and met in a Chat Room where we both claimed we’d never been before.” :)
