Frustrating Food

Hello long lost friends! Sorry it’s been a few days…I’m in the middle of a frustrating food crisis. Well, maybe not a crisis – but I’m pregnant, I’m allowed to be a bit dramatic, right?

For the last few days, I have subsided (almost exclusively) on these two foods:

  1. Mama Pea’s No Egg ‘Nog Scones
  2. This concoction:

Flatbread crackers, whipped cream cheese, bread and butter pickles

I know, it’s pretty sad. But for the last few days, nothing has sounded appetizing. And I don’t mean ‘nothing in the house’, I mean nothing. Like, if I had a magic wand that could instantly produce any food in the world, I still wouldn’t want anything. When you’re starving…this is an awful predicament to be in.

So tonight, when my stomach started growling, I actually started crying. Real tears. I left the house in a sad state and announced that I wasn’t returning until I found something that sounded good to eat.

I drove around listening to Christmas music for a while, and later returned home with some things that I’m not exactly proud to be showing to the world.

A couple of items from the Sonic kid’s menu – a grilled cheese sandwich and a lime slushie. Meeker just started laughing when I came through the door.

Remember when this was a healthy food blog?? I hope that day returns soon. Not liking food is frustrating.

  1. i like the pickle combination!!! that acutally sounds pretty good right now! my manager at work is preggo and she says she craves grapefruit and soup….(not together) but she always wants those two foods! wierd I know…anyways…eat what feels good to you, sorry its frustrating but of course you will get back to normal in no time!

  2. Remember my story? Hide a can of pringles and a big quart of choc. milk? It happens…tomorrow is a new day. I’d tell myself I was eating for string bean and some days I had to make myself eat :)

  3. I hope you start liking food again. I get like that sometimes where nothing seems just right for me to eat. But I always find a way to get excited about something so I hope you do too. Nice post

  4. Um… don’t worry. I have odd cravings all the time, once again… you have an excuse! Let me provide you with some suggestions from my old snack menu: lima beans + hummus, mashed chickpea and pickle panini, coconut kefir + banana + orange smoothie… I have many more, hopefully you are not too worried about this because you will most definitely fall back into your love of cake sooner or later!

  6. When I was about 9 weeks, I stormed out of a restaurant leaving my husband and in-laws baffled because I couldn’t find anything to eat. Not one item on the enormous menu appealed to menu. So I left (I had driven myself). It was horrible, and even worse when I realized how I acted. I ended up eating a Wendy’s chili, fries and salad that day. Sometimes you just have to give. It’s OK!

  7. Oh how I remember those days all too well!!! And I remember having those days when I didn’t feel like anything to eat but when I did think of something that I wanted. I had to have it NOW.

  8. I remember those days. Those were the days of chocolate chip cookies dunked in sprite, and chicken and waffle sandwiches. I promise it’ll all go back to normal. Just eat what sounds good. It doesn’t really matter what that is.

  9. Don’t feel too bad about the Sonic! I avoid fast food like the plague but when I’m pregnant (like now) it’s sometimes the only thing that I think I can stomach. My husband says my standards are lowered when I’m preg. ;) Good luck!

  10. I nannied in college and the family I worked for had 3 kids. Kids #1 and #3 were “normal” preggo – random cravings, things not sounding good, etc. Kid #2 the only thing the mom wanted to eat was Taco Bell bean burritos for the first trimester! It was the only thing she could stomach and he still turned out to be a very healthy and happy little boy…with a slight obsession with T-Bell ;)

    • Haha, that makes me feel so much better!! I nannied for a family and the 3rd pregnancy she had she would only eat Chef-Boyardee Ravioli – otherwise, the family was gluten free/organic/health nuts! It was pretty funny…I guess you just have to go with what sounds good!

  11. Ha ha!! Grilled cheese and a lime slushie from Sonic. That’s great. But no need to be ashamed – every once in a while nothing sounds better to me than cheese sticks and a cherry limeade. But I DO hope that your healthy appetite returns to you soon! I know I’d be miserable if fruit and veggies didn’t even sound good…..

  13. Scrolling down only to see the grilled cheese and lime slushie gave me the biggest real laugh I have had all day :) I have days like this all the time too, and I’ve never even been pregnant. Can definitely relate. Such a funny combination :) Take care and glad to see things are going better in your later posts!
