More Crossfit Love

I’ve blogged about my love of crossfit workouts before – but never really shown you guys my favorite moves. So here you go…Mrs. Unger, six months pregnant, doing her best to look fit and coordinated.

Wall Ball Shots

Full squat…then stand up and throw the weight ball (I used 12lbs).

Try to aim for a spot on the wall 10 feet above the ground.

Ring Rows

Hang on the rings with your arms straight, stretch your legs out on an angle, and pull yourself up so the rings hit your chest.

Actually harder than it looks and sounds.

Kettlebell Swings – my all time favorites.

Hold a kettlebell in your hands (I use the 16kg), squat and let the kettlebell swing between your legs – then use your hips to thrust the kettlebell into the air and over your head.

Then squat back down and repeat.

This one in particular really gets my heart-rate up. It almost feels like I’ve run a sprint after a few rounds. Love, love, love.

What are your favorite strength moves?

  1. I love kettlebell swings, too! :) And I also love crow pose… I can finally get both my legs up off the floor. Now I’m working on straightening one leg backwards.

  2. You are too cute! My favorite strength move is deadlifts. I love the afterburn in my hamstrings and butt. I am ALWAYS ALWAYS sore the next day and I love that!

Oh and ring rows are awesome! HARD! I am impressed.

  3. I LOVE crossfit to!! my all time favorite way to workout! its quick and effective!! my favorite crossfit move is thrusters! killer.. and a new fav, single hand snatches with a kettlebell! super awesome for tightning the tummy!

  4. Dang, you go woman! Awesome workout! :) And, I am so happy to see pregnant women working out…hard! Just because you have a basketball on your belly doesn’t mean you can’t workout. Keep it up, Katie! :)

  5. I am so curious about the “rules” for working out while pregnant. Did your doc give you any restrictions? Seems like you still kick butt! Good job :0)

    • Well, to be honest, there are no set rules for everyone. The general consensus is that if you’re active before pregnancy, you can still workout – just tone down the intensity. I didn’t ask my doctor about these types of exercises. I feel like i know my body better than my doctor does, and I know what I’m capable of. I take lots of breaks when I work out, and make sure my weights aren’t too heavy. Also, I didn’t do much strength training in the 1st trimester – that’s kind of the “scary” time, so I just walked a lot and did yoga. Now that the baby is fully formed, I feel a little safer doing some of my old workouts…with modifications!

  6. Coolest. Mom. Ever. Amazing that you are into cross-fit, especially while pregnant! You should be extremely proud of yourself, and you should know that NO pregnant women have excuses anymore… All thanks to you ;) I love seeing anyone that strength trains on their feet rather than seated on a bench! You rock.
