Memory Soup

Breakfast has slowly become one of my least favorite meals. Maybe it’s Baby Cakes’ fault. Maybe it’s not.

Either way, I had a piece of toast before my workout this morning. Boring. Definitively not picture worthy.

Lunch was much better.

Spinach salad with cucumbers, pecans, raisins, and ½ a blended grapefruit as the dressing.

Plus the other half of the grapefruit on the side. I’m back on my grapefruit kick.

After lunch I had a ½ of a sticky bun. Let me explain…

I have a Food Network calendar hanging in my kitchen, and before I left for the grocery store this afternoon, I glanced at the calendar and happened to notice that today is National Sticky Bun Day. I didn’t think much of it until I went to the store and saw this on sale for $1.50 – I felt like I owed it to the sticky bun to buy it.

I ate half, and saved the rest. It was pretty delicious.

For dinner, I made a Meeker requested meal. When we were first married, I was a nanny and he was still in school. I was just learning how to cook, and I pretty much used Rachael Ray’s 30-Minute Meals as my dinner-bible.

I used to make this recipe once a week because it was easy, cheap(ish), and yummy – and it’s one that we both remember fondly. Mostly, I remember Meeker studying in the living room, and me making a mess cooking in our tiny apartment kitchen in Boulder. I loved that year.

And I love this soup: Smokey Chicken Tortilla Soup

Check it out – it’s a good one.

  1. Yum! That soup looks good.

Breakfast is by far my favorite meal but I hardly ever eat it for “breakfast.” I just have breakfast foods at all other times of day. :-) Including grapefruit, which I love.

  2. I love recipes that you make a connection to!
I hope I feel the same way with some of our meals that I’ve made in my husband’s tiny bachelor pad that we’ve made into our first married home. :)
I love a good tortilla soup, so I’ll be sure to check it out.
