Pencil Shavings

I live a mile from school – which is fantastic, because when I’m too sleepy to pack a lunch the night before, I can just buzz home for a few minutes at lunchtime.

Spinach, cucumber, celery, blackberries, balsamic vinaigrette

A friend made us some beef barley stew, so I had a small bowl for course numero dos.

Then finished everything off with a lemonade fruit bar. This flavor is so good – it rivals lime.

I’m embarrassed to show you dinner.

It accurately reflects my energy level today.

At least I made some asparagus to go alongside, right?

In the 3rd grade world…

I started nesting in my classroom today.

After the kiddos walked out the door, I found myself dusting, sanitizing, and on hands and knees picking pencil shavings from the multi-colored carpet.

Completely illogical. There is no way my baby is going to ever going to be crawling around on this nasty carpet. But nonetheless, I was cleaning it like I was possessed.

In other news, it’s teacher appreciation week!

And my kiddos brought me flowers. Preeety.

  1. I love that you were hard core cleaning your classroom. I get like that every once in a while too – I love Teacher Appreciation week! I was surprised with a very decorated classroom this morning!

  2. lol! katie my dear, you are far too pregnant to be on hands and knees picking up pencil shavings! that can’t be good for you. no way. no more of that!
and hoorah for the last monday being over with, and for pretty flowers too!!

  3. Haha – I think that dinner looks awesome! I can’t remember the last time I had Mac and Cheese and I think it’s time I fix that. Plus, you got it from Sprouts! That says something right?

And don’t worry about the illogical thoughts behind cleaning the pencil shavings, I would’ve been right there with you simply because it would bother me to look at :)

Happy Teacher Appreciation week! I hope Baby Cakes’ present to you is to pop out!

  4. Hey now, no shame in your dinner, sometimes you need a little mac&cheese! At least you had some asparagus ;) Every time I visit the blog, I get all excited thinking there will be a babycakes announcement, I’m so excited for you!!

  6. I live in Germany and we don’t have such a thing as teacher appreciation week. So when my Mom and I just looked at that bouquet you got, I (being a high school teacher) said: “I wish we had a teacher appreciation week, too!” and she was like: “But high schoolers don’t appreciate their teachers!” Well, aside the fact that I don’t think she’s right in general, I was wondering whether high school kids in the USA do something for their teachers this week or would that be considered geeky?

Oh, and another question if you don’t mind: Is there no such thing as “care for moms to be” – I mean, here in Germany, pregnant women stop working 6 weeks before their “baby arrival date”. Do you have to work to the day baby cakes arrives? In that case, I would have sanitized the classroom, too. I mean, you never know when things will get going ;-)
