A few days ago, I mentioned that I have been a reading fool since Adrienne was born. Every time she eats, I read. That’s at least three hours a day, and I’ve covered a lot of ground pages in the last two months. You all wanted to know what I’d read – so here you go!

I just finished this one and loved it. Such an epic story – it took a bit to get into it, but I ended up being enthralled.

The second book of hers that I’ve read…Half Broke Horses is every bit as engaging and unbelievable as The Glass Castle.
Happy Ever After (ß this one was a very light, entertaining read that got me though many 2am feedings)

I couldn’t put this one down – I probably overfed Adrienne just because I was so eager to read the book, I didn’t pay any attention to her. Whoopsies.
A Gate at the Stairs (ß I did not like this book. I felt like I was waiting for the story to start the whole time. It never did.)

Jessica recommended this one, and I adored every page. Like her, I was so sad when it ended…I felt like the characters were my friends and I had to say goodbye. Nerdy, I know.
Last, but most definitely not least…

This one wasn’t exactly a thrilling read, but I had to include it because this book is amazing. I read the whole thing in two hours, and it changed my life. At two months old, Adrienne now sleeps twelve hours a night. I recommend this to anyone who is pregnant, has a newborn, or knows anyone who does. Suzy Giordano is a genius.
In other news, we had Mama Pea’s Noodle Salad with Mmmm Sauce for dinner tonight and it was incredible.

I can’t even wait for her cookbook to arrive.

I felt the same way when I finished The Island, I loved it. I’m starting The Blue Bistro tonight, also by Elin Hilderbrand.
We had Mama Pea’s Peanut Mmmmmm sauce the other day too. In love as well.
I haven’t read any of these but I’m an avid reader and always looking for suggestions. I’m so excited to have a recommendation list!
Those are some great book recommendations! I have to add them to my list!
Oh man, you weren’t kidding! One of my New Years Resolutions was to read at least one book a month and sadly one book a month is where I’ve mostly maxed out; so embarassing for a librarian’s daughter!
My favorite author is Augusten Burroughs, have you read any of his stuff yet?
I haven’t read this much since….well, I don’t think ever. Just have a baby and you’ll meet your one-book-a-month quota and make Mama Librarian proud.
I’ll have to get the Baby sleep solutions book for one of my best friend’s sister that is having her first baby in 2 weeks! She doesn’t know what she’s having and there is only so much gender neutral stuff you can get! Thanks
I totally agree about A Gate At The Stairs…such a strange, boring book! The author came to my college last year, though, and I enjoyed her Q&A session, as well as the reading that she did of the book. But the book in its entirety? Unfortunately, not so much.
Geez, I’m glad I’m not the only one…I though I was just too dense or shallow (or sleepy) to enjoy it.
I love these types of posts! Gives me more books to add to my must read list.
Also, i’ve been itching to try that exact recipe from Mama Pea. It sounds amazing. I just need to get my booty into gear and pick up a few things for it. Yum!
By the way, i just wanted to say how i’ve been loving your pictures lately! Your photos just keep getting better and better! Very swoon worthy.
Thank you so much! I am getting more and more interested in photography…it’s so fun to learn about.
Yippee! She is sleeping and so are you
! I wish I would have had that book when my four were babies. Now, they naturally sleep 12 hours as teenagers….I guess they are growing again! BTW… I made the raspberry scones the other day and had to substitute blackberries because the store was out of my favorite berry
!. They needed a bit of mashing before folding them in, but my family LOVED them! I will make them again…
Julie, I meant to email you directly and tell you how much I APPRECIATE the book! Tell Bill THANK YOU from me…I’m in awe of how quickly it started to “work” – hallelujah!
I just had a baby as well and I’m curious about the sleep solution. Is she sleeping 12 hours straight or just total? I’m going to need to look into this book.
12 hour straight!! It’s amazing!! I am still getting up to feed her for about 10 minutes once a night, but we’re working on getting rid of that last feeding…I’m hoping by the end of next week. You can’t really start the “process” until they are 8 weeks (or 10 pounds) – but it’s good to read it a little earlier than that so you can start right away, at least that’s what I did. Good luck!
Ooh, I can’t wait to check out these books!
Thanks for all the book recommendations! I’ll be going on 4 week vacation next month and will be needing to pick up some new reads!
I’m dying to read Cutting for Stone. Everyone and their mother has told me how good it was. I’m reading “The Help” right now but that one is definitely next on my list!
Ooooh, LOVED the Help…I read it last summer and couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait for the movie!
I just finished The Island, and I too, fell in love with the characters. I need to get my hands on Rescue…
It is good to know someone else struggled with The Gate at the Stairs. I have been trying to read it for over a week and am only on page 73. I am just waiting for something to suck me in and nothing is happening. I’ll definitely be happy to check out these other books on your list.
Ugh, don’t even finish it. Nothing exciting happens!
love glass castle and half broke horses…hated gate at the stairs. we have similar taste
you have to read The Help and also The 19th Wife!!
I read the Help last summer and LOVED it, I couldn’t put it down. I’ll have to check out the 19th Wife! Thanks for the suggestion!
So glad you’ve been getting to catch up on reading! It’s so wonderful, no? I’ve been reading Charlotte Bronte’s “Jane Eyre” and am LOVING it.
Wow, that’s ambitious….I’m very impressed that you are tackling that for summer reading.
12 hours straight?! Looks like I need to find this book.
You do…it’ll make all the difference in the world. I got mine at Barnes and Noble for $12.
Those are great recommendations! I have so much reading to catch up on!
Yay- Love these recommendations… I need to add a bunch of these to my ever-growing “to read” list.
TWELVE hours a night?! I’m bookmarking this post. Thanks!
I’ve been on a reading kick lately and am thrilled for this list of recommendations!
I am a lover of the classics, so this list is great incentive to get me looking at some more contemporary literature! Thanks
Thanks for sharing, I need a new book. I started Girl W the Dragon Tattoo and couldn’t get past the first 100 pages. And I just finished the Hunger Games series which I could NOT put down, so the bar’s been set pretty high for whatever is going to follow…
Hon, you ought to start a little book exchange – I’m sure plenty of us have recs/would like recs for books to read! (Granted, I read a lot of non fiction/general nerd type stuff, but still, who doesn’t love a little direction through the stacks??)
Thanks for all the book reccos! I just read a fab book – The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao – totally recommend!
Your food photos make me hungry! YUM
I read so many books when I nursed my youngest; I almost miss those days!
I have The Island on my list of books to read, have you read The Castaways (same author)? Ridiculously good book!!!
Oooh no, haven’t even heard of it, thank you!
I recommend The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (by Shaffer and Barrows), Bonk (by Mary Roach), and either the Sex Lives of Cannibals or Getting Stoned with the Savages (by J. Maarten Troost).
Thank you, thank you!
Try the Hunger Games… its a 3 book series. I read them all within 2 weeks becasue I couldnt put them down.
I have heard good things about these! I will definitely put them on my to-read list. Thank you!
thanks for the reviews!!! anita shreve is hit and miss with me, so ill add that to my to-read list. the glass castle was great, so thanks for the go-ahead on her other book. my mom said cutting for stone was good but long. im currently obsessed with the hunger games series. have you read them?
I’ve heard so many good things about that series…it is on my to-read list for sure!
i’m bookmarking this post for when i have children. that book will be a necessity.
i miss reading for pleasure so much. just no time to do so
What did you think of Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand? I want to read it but every time I read the description I convince myself I’d hate it.
Absolutely LOVED Cutting For Stone.
Jeanette Walls is a phenomenal writer. The Glass Castle changed my life.
I pout Rescue on my paperbackswap wishlist. Are you on paperbackswap? It is perfect for avid readers. You should check it out.
paperbackswap.com
Yeah, that is supposed to say PUT not POUT. But I am sure you figured that out.
I didn’t love Major Pettigrew’s last stand…but it was a sweet story. Just not terribly exciting.
And no I’m not on paperbackswitch – I will have to check it out, thanks for the tip!
