Want to know the real reason I made cupcakes last week?
I don’t even like cupcakes. You can probably tell by how little effort I put into frosting those things…I’m of the rustic approach remember? (Although, really, who has ever heard of a rustic cupcake?) Plus, I like to enjoy my cake with a fork and a scoop of ice cream on the side.
I always end up eating cupcakes standing over the sink – and what’s the fun in that? Okay, there’s a lot of fun in that, but I still like my cake on a plate and in triangle form.
So last week, I made cupcakes because this week I wanted to make volcanos.
Looky there. The base for the volcano recipe is the red velvet cupcake recipe…just smooshed into to crumbs.
Smoosh, smoosh.
Making volcanoes.
Filling volcanoes.
Adding chocolate to volcanoes.
Finished volcano. And you can bet your bottom dollar that this sucker was popped into my mouth directly after this picture. Chewy, cookie-like and filled with gooey lava…er, frosting.
And a picture of my Babycakes…
Little lamb head. She has recently decided that her hands are the tastiest thing on the planet, and thinks that rolling over while I’m changing her diaper is fun. I disagree.

This is a post in a series I’m doing called Babycakes Friday. Each week I review a recipe out of the Babycakes Cookbook. I have no affiliation with the company, I just really like vegan baking.
Love the lamb hat
These look yum! Cool colour
Love this idea–would love to experiment with flavors!
She is too cute
Those looks so good and I know I would love them because I love anything Red Velvet! I’m so sad that I have to wait till I get back from vacation to start baking from babycakes! Oh well!!
Adrienne is cute as always!
Cute little babycakes!
FYI I totally went to Barnes and Nobles last night looking for that cookbook, and could NOT find it.
They only had Babycakes Covers the Classics, but I wanted the basic one you’ve been using on the blog.. Sad!
ahh boo! I’ve heard that Classics one is really good, too though.
These remind me a little of my “cake in a bag”. Only yours comes with a side of Adrienne!! And those little rolls at her wrists…Clara has them, Henry had them. Like a rubberband is under there somewhere
haha, what a perfect description. I love all that chub – it’s so kissable.
Like you said, “everybody loves a chunky baby”. So true!!
I can’t decide what I want to munch on more. Those volcano baby cakes, or your baby cakes. DEAR BABY.
gahh those volcanos AND babycakes!!! amazing amazing!!!!
Those are so cute! I think baby wants some volcanoes too!
Your babycakes is SO adorable! I want to make these!
Mmm…these look fabulous! I’m thinking your cupcakes eaten as is would be totally delicious, but these look even more delicious. Yum!
I love red velvet anything! I agree about cupackes though. I always end up eating them with a fork so they’re more cakey.
These loook great! I love Babycake Fridays!!
those volcanoes have my name all over them. holy goodness.
oohhh gosh. I want a volcano <3
I can’t remember ever having tasted red velvet cake. These volcanoes look really, really yummy. Every time you do a recipe out of Babycakes, it makes me want to buy the book!
How much fun is that? Food is always best if it has to be smooshed before eating. Love it!
smoosh smoosh smoosh. i want to do that to baby a’s cheeks too. rolling over while diaper changing seems vaguely familiar. at least shes lighter than my patients.
ahaha! I have a friend who is a nurse, and when she met Baby A, there was unfortunately a diaper blowout situation while my friend was holding her. I was hugely apologetic, but she assured me that baby poop was nothing near as bad as her patients. You guys are saints.
Those “volcano” desserts sound…um…interesting. But then again, anything with Red Velvet cake in it must be good. I love Red Velvet!
Those amazing and your babycakes is too cute as always!!

Well, I read several blog entries at once and I too want your life, especially the house sitting and
babycakes part. Holy Cow, it looks like you are visiting a resort with that backyard, then you add in Baby A and all that food and this wonderful HEAT and I feel a vacation coming on!!
Loved the “mexican pile on” entry with Mike’s digust over the distasteful salsa. I figure your daddy would have taught you better than that. So, is the next Kate experiment should be salsa making.
I really love these thoughts and pictures. you make me hungry and proud to be you La grande tia!!!
