Carrot Juice (and more!)

Have you seen the documentary Sick, Fat, and Nearly Dead?

I watched it last week. And I tell you what – that guy’s transformation was amazing. I don’t think that I could live off of juice for 60 days. Actually, I know I couldn’t. I don’t even want to try. However, it did inspire me to plug in my juicer, buy a 10lb bag of carrots, and get to work.

This morning’s mix:

  • 4 carrots
  • 3 celery stalks
  • 1/4 beet
  • 1 lemon
  • 5 strawberries
  • 1 apple

How could you not like something that color? It tastes good too, I promise. Even Meeker says so.

Thoughts on juicing?

  1. I watched it a couple weeks ago on Netflix. I really liked it–the guy wasn’t pushy or condescending, and made it sound “doable”. One of my friends was so inspired by it she ran out & bought a Jack LaLanne & her entire family has been juicing breakfast & dinner since then. She says she’s never felt so great.

I love, love, love juice. It’s a good thing that there aren’t any juicing places by me, because I would spend way too much money!

  2. I am not a big juice fan whatsoever, so I certainly couldn’t live on the stuff alone, but apple/carrot/other random stuff being juiced always reminds me of being a kid when my uncle would let me share some of his “special” vegetable juice. I just thought it was cool I could drink my veggies. ;-)

  3. I need a juicer. And yeah, I was completely in awe of that guy. And I was so glad that he helped the trucker out too! It made me so happy.

I’m all for a nice juice every once in a while, but 60 days on nothing but juice (even A day!) is just not really my cup of tea…or, juice :)

  4. Yes I did see that movie! I watched it on netflix while I was babysitting one time….It was insane that he became completely disease free! It made me really want to buy a juicier and then I found out how much they cost soooo then I went to my health food shop and bought a juice for like $5 for 1/4 of a cup soooo then I thought maybe I should save up for a juicer after all :)

  5. Juicing is one HL trend that I really don’t see myself getting ever into. I prefer to eat my breakfast, not drink it, and I doubt a glass of 100 calories would satisfy me. I have no problem consuming enough vegetables and fruits, so I don’t see a reason to juice them. ;)

  6. Juicing is intriguing to me and I think I could do it on occasion. But when it comes to the cost of the juicer and buying all the produce it takes to make ONE drink, it’s not practical for me. But I always think the juice comes out looking so pretty and healthy, so more power to anyone who goes for it!

  7. I really love Carrot juice.. I wanted to buy a juicer- but then realized that if your going to get one, you really want a nicer model to get the most out of those organic fruits and veggies. The truth is I like to get a juice here and there as a treat or just something different- but I can’t commit to the price of a juicer to make it a habit!

  8. I just got a juicer for my birthday – I would love to hear of more tasty recipes. Especially for my husband who doesn’t like vegetables…but he likes juice. We’re trying this one out tonight!

  9. Whenever I get on a juicing kick, I really do feel better. I just don’t enjoy the cleaning up part. I’m slowly slipping into less healthy eating lately and think I feel a juice kick starting up again soon. Better stock up on lotion for my hands after all the dish washing. :)

  12. I just watched the documentary Fat Sick and Nearly Dead last night! Now I want to run out and buy a juicer and start juicing. I could never do a juice fast, but I do want to start incorporating juice into my family’s diet! Do you have a recommendation for a good juicer? And how much should I plan on spending?

    • Oh gosh, isn’t that movie inspiring?! And no, I wouldn’t ever want to do a fast either, but it is awesome in the mornings before my breakfast. Baby A LOVES beet and carrot juice. Kind of funny. I have a Jack LaLane juicer and I love it – it is sort of a pain to clean, but it works really well. I can even put whole lemons (peel on!) in there and it juices them like a pro.

As far as how much they cost – I’m sorry I”m no use to you because mine was a Christmas gift. I just looked online and the model I have is around $100, but maybe you could find a cheaper (even gently used) one for less. Good luck!
