The other day my friend Sarah tweeted about some scones and blackberry jam she was eating.
I tweeted her back and basically told her that she needed to email me the recipe in the next five seconds or else our ten years of friendship would go down the drain.
Just kidding. I didn’t tell her that.
I didn’t have to. She emailed her recipe to me within five seconds.
I then told her that I was stealing her recipe (it’s so easy you can barely call it that) and putting it on my blog.
I’m such a good friend, right?
Oh heavens, you can’t believe how good this is until you make it. It’s especially good with oatmeal scones. If you have five spare minutes today – you must make this. MUST, I tell you.
Otherwise, our internet friendship is over.
Easy Blackberry Jam
- 1 small carton of blackberries
- 1 T sugar (or agave, or honey or whatever)
- the juice of 1/2 a lemon
Put all the ingredients in a small saucepan and turn the heat on medium. Once those blackberry juices start flowing, squish it all up with a potato masher or a fork.
Let the mess simmer for about 5 minutes then remove from the heat until it’s thickened and looks sort of like jam.
Thank you Sarah Fred…I love you.

I’ll be a little more careful now with all the recipes that I’ve shared with you. Stealer.
I made a blackberry orange sauce recently that was like crack. I put it on everything. This is pretty much similar except with lemon so I hear ya!
I love Jam. I can’t believe it’s that easy! Thank you both for sharing
I need this for my toast! I always thought jam was hard to make, I was mistaken!
I made this recently with frozen mixed berries and we eat it on everything. In fact I find myself making oatmeal/toast/bagels simply as a vehicle to eat the fruit spread…
That is incredibly simple – and not a lot of sugar. Beautiful photo!
Just as long as I can send you a picture of all the seeds stuck in my teeth.
I would like nothing more.
Wow. Need to make this stat. Or the next time I see blackberries on sale. Thank you!
They were BOGO for us this week.
Oh my…that looks absolutely incredible friend!! I think I also now love Sarah Fred
Jam is something I’ve always wanted to tackle but just never has…as usual, you’ve motivated me to just do it!
I’m not sure if this is “real jam” – but it tastes good to me!
Blackberries may be my favorite berry. They’re so amazing. I think I’m going to need some blackberry jam now too.
Ahhhh!! I love that everyone loves this jam. Hooray! And those photos are B-E-A-yooo-tiful. I’m coming over to eat soon. Bringing Roscoe. Kiss that baby for me.
PS- You can steal any of my recipes any time! Love you!
Love youuuuuu, Sasa!!!
Um, I dont think I can get blackberries here
. I just had PB& raspberry jam on toast with a cup of tea though. Are we cool?
We’re definitely cool. I want to try it with raspberries next!
Sounds like breakfast this weekend to me!
blackberries are my absolute favorite berry! i am making this so so soon!
looooove blackberries! And I love that this has like practically no added sugars. You’re the best.
No, you are.
it’s just so easy! thank you sarah haha
okay, I’m not so sure the consistency would be as perfecto as with blackberries or raspberries, but I’ve gotta ask since I have blueberries on hand.. think the combo would work with them, too?
Yes!! Go for it…let me know how it turns out!
blackberry jam is the BEST, especially homemade!! We always have some in the fridge
I’m so excited about this recipe…. can’t wait to make it! I love jam. Thanks Sarah and Katie.
ahhh you didn’t!!!! Blackberry jam might be my favorite…. esp on fluffy biscuits or fluffy anything really! I’m so envious right now
want. this. stat.
dang, now I have to go make biscuits to go with this…sounds too good not to.
So I am not a big blackberry fan because of the seeds…but I am guessing that straining it removes the seeds??
I bet it would…you try it and let me know. Or just make it with blueberries! Or strawberries!
Why was I always under the impression that homemade jam was hard?! Thank you for showing me the light!
You are so very welcome! And this might not really be a technical “jam” but it works for me…and is seriously tasty.
First time on your blog and the first thing that pops up is BLACKBERRY JAM! I have a giant carton of blackberries and this is super easy to make. I’ve been putting the whole berries in my PB & Js because I wanted to avoid store-bought jams and jellies. This is perfect!
Oops my name came out wrong! It’s just Julie. Hah.
YUM. I have a recipe similar to that for strawberries!
Hehe – for some reason I thought you were going to say “But I didn’t have to…because she knows the drill.” ^^; But such a simple and lovely recipe!
VERY foodgawkerish
Oooh gosh..thanks. I’ll have to go submit a picture – I’ve kind of given up.
Um, yum. I need to make this like now.
i am in love.
but more importantly, i am wondering the picture of baby A with blackberry jam all over her face is?!
there should be a *where* in there. i’m dumb.
the blackberries were 99 cents at my store too this week! as were the raspberries…I am always so intimiated to make jam, I dont know why but it scares me haha that and biscotti or any cracker item…but back to the jam…Im making this!
You must! I don’t think you could mess it up if you tried. (and blackberries were on sale for us, too! Yipee!)
Blackberry jam is my favorite. Just found your site and I love it!
I just made this today, with some cream scones. Delicious!!!! Great way to make simple and yummy berry jams!
Hooray! Thanks for letting me know!
