About a week ago, Cascadian Farms sent me two boxes of their cereal to try out. Purely O’s and Honey Nut O’s.
I really liked them both. Reallly liked. So much so that I hid the Honey Nut O’s box just for me…thank goodness babies can’t have honey.
While I was eating handful after handful cereal, I decided that they taste a lot like rice crispies.
The logical next step was to make some sort of sticky treat out of them,
You follow that logic, right?
Peanut Butter Purely O’s Treats
PRINT Recipe
- 1 c peanut butter (creamy or chunky)
- 2/3 c maple syrup
- 1 t vanilla
- 3 cups of Purely O’s (or similar cereal)
Combine the peanut butter and maple syrup on a small saucepan on the stove. Cook over medium heat, stirring until incorporated. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla.
Stir in the cereal and mix until all those O’s are covered in sweet sticky peanut butter. Then you can either press it all into a 9×13 pan or squish them into 12 little muffin tins until hardened.
(Yes, Adrienne eats peanut butter. Don’t try to tell me it’s not good for babies…I’m not buying it.)
Mama, I need another one. This one disappeared inside my squirrel cheeks.

OH my word that picture of her with the ball of goodness held in her mouth is SO CUTE!!! I hope you are framing that!!!! Looks like such a good recipe…I can’t be trusted around such goodness! I don’t know when to stop!
I feel that you just had a stroke of genius! I can’t get them in Amsterdam though. boo for limited European choice of cereal.
Any kind of crispy cereal will work!
Love these, so yummy! Your little girl is the cutest thing ive seen all week!
YUM! And that picture of Adrienne is adorable…look at those eyes!!
she is soo adorable! Now I am in the mood for rice krispie treats, it has been a long time since I have had them!
Looks good! Perfect size for her wee little hand too. I wondered about pb & babies. That’s a pretty old fashioned rule right? Kinda like how they say rice cereal is the “perfect first food”.
Yeah, I think it stems from fear of allergies…but I just have no reason to think that A would be allergic. I started with just a teeeeensy little bit on my finger. Now I probably let her have it once a week or less.
I’m known to hide cereal so only I can eat it! I’ve never tried to Purely O’s, but I think I better, especially rolled up in peanut butter!
Look at her fist that thing! Adorable!
Um, I want to shove a fistful of those o’s treats in my mouth just like Baby A.
And babies can’t have honey?! Thank God you told me this before I have kids.. totally had no idea.
Apparently they can get some weird disease… infant botulism I think? They say to hold off for a year.
hehehe she loves them!!! those look freakin aweeeesome great for superbowl bites
Her little pudgy hand grabbing that mass of deliciousness is just too adorable. This is such a good idea! And I LOVE your photos in this post friend!!
Thank you!! It was so sunny and pretty yesterday…my camera likes that.
Hi,
I’ve been lurking for a few months. I’ve got to say, my daughter is a few days older than Baby A, and I’m also of the camp that babies can eat more than we assume. Unless you have a history of food allergies in your family (which we don’t) I think the food in North America is pretty safe and so long as they’re not going to choke, they’ll probably benefit from developing their tastes for things other than apples and rice at an early age.
Lily (my daughter) just eats whatever we’re having for dinner, just chopped up really good.
So, thanks for making me feel better about this issue, when there are so many other mom’s out there preaching on about specially purchased toddler food. (which, by the way, have you read the ingredient lists on those things? I swear half of it isn’t English)
So glad you feel that way too!! We never did pureed food with Baby A…it just doesn’t make sense to me. GIve your little girl a squeeze from us!
I LOVE THIS. And her face. And those treats. I’d eat those. I would. Swear it.
That face is so darn cute. And anything with peanut butter in it = win.
I love any Cascadian Farm cereal. I have to try this!
It’s not even fair how cute your baby is. That last picture just melts my heart.
I want to make these now, mainly because you used maple syrup. I’ve been on a major maple syrup kick lately.
Me too…from salad dressing to cheerios. It’s safe to say I’m obsessed.
Can I please just come over and babysit? Adrienne is so sweet! And I don’t mean just because she’s got maple syrup and PB all over her face.
These look really good!
We can definitely make that babysitting a reality.
Those look fantastic! And I like the individual portions. Though I could eat all of them- can’t ever get enough peanut butter!
I am a mother of two, my youngest being 11 months old, and we fed them peanut butter starting around or before 6 months. As long as there are no allergies in your family, I think it is not a problem! I also believe that the more you expose to them early on will prevent allergies. I love reading your blog!
Love this recipe! Will definitely have to try to make it for my girls. Have a lovely day!
ahhh what a cutie! she is!! Those treats look delicious and fun!
I’ve just had dinner and those would make a perfect dessert.
But Im cereal-less!!!!
HMPH.
What a fabulous idea to make treats in muffin tins instead of a casserole dish! I love the single-serving size (though I doubt I’d stop at just one
)
I stopped at 12. Because there weren’t any more.
Misty LOVES peanut butter too – so does my dog. Man, if they ain’t allergic, don’t hold out on giving them the tasty goods, that’s my motto! These look delish
these look amazing–and definitely very versatile. they could count as breakfast, right? i mean, it has cereal in it.
Cereal AND maple syrup. That screams breakfast to me!
Love the simplicity of these!
Ya see.. here’s the thing with these: once I start eating them, I won’t be able to STOP!!! And I don’t have the cutest baby on the planet to share them with! Problems.

Yummy! I love anything with peanut butter. We just don’t eat too much of it around our house with Sarah and her peanut butter allergy. What a bummer for me, but I just might have to sneak a batch of these into my world
!
Try it with sunbutter…the sunflower seed butter – I bet they would be awesome! Can Sarah have that? Or almond butter? (oh, and HAPPY SNOW DAY!!)
I love that you turned something tasty into something ridiculously delicious. These sound like the perfect afternoon snack to me!
What a great little treat!
Yup, PB family here too. And shellfish (she had some prawns recently and LOVED them). No honey and no egg whites, either (though, I don’t eat a lot of egg anyway). No dairy, which she won’t have even after we’ve weaned from BF. She’s also had soy (tofu) and strawberries.
My Dr told us that so long as there is no history of allergies in the family that you should be okay to start with small amounts and build up, that all of those warnings really are old fashioned and can be tossed so long as you apply common sense – it IS a new food you’re introducing no matter what it is so start small.
My best friend’s mom used to make these treats growing up and I bet I haven’t had one since I was 11. I am so excited to see a recipe. Thanks!!
I had no idea feeding pb was bad for babies? why!? if they aren’t allergic? anyway, those look tasty!
I think they worry that it babies ARE allergic it would pretty much rock their little body. Also…I know some people are scared of overexposure to pb being the cause of allergies. Like I said, I don’t really buy it.
