The other night Meeker got into bed and as I kissed him goodnight, I distinctly smelled chocolate on his breath.
Were you just eating chocolate?
Yeah, I bit off Santa’s head.
What the heck are you talking about?
You know, that big basket of German chocolate that one of your blog readers sent us at Christmas? Some of it’s still in the back of the pantry and there’s an old chocolate Santa in there and I just ate his head before I came up here.
Well, the next morning I went and search of this headless Santa, and sure enough, he was there.
But not for long.
Sorry Santa, I’m much to ready for summer to be here to have you hanging around.
It didn’t help that yesterday was snowy and miserable outside – it might as well have been December 25th.
But I’ll tell what, drinking a (couple of) mini cups of coffee spiked chocolate sure boosted my spirits.
Drinking Chocolate
- one headless milk chocolate Santa (or Easter bunny!), the equivalent of about 2 ounces of chocolate
- 2 T heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 c milk
- 2 T brewed coffee
Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and whisk over medium heat until it is all combined and has turned to delicious drinkable liquid.
And that my friends, is how you drink (almost) an entire candy bar in five minutes flat.
Ha, great story! It’s funny how you can tell what you hubby ate…my hubbie always sneaks pepperettes (meat sticks) and I hate the smell of those
Why have I never thought to do this with the plethora of chocolates my students give me for every.single.holiday??? Amazing.
Ahahahahaha I just loved absolutely everything about this post.
And not just because there was chocolate involved – promise
hahaha I love it!
The amount of headless or footless bunnies and santas in my pantry is disturbing. This is brilliant and somehow doesn’t feel nearly as bad as eating the chocolate straight up
It does make it seem better, right? Why is that?
Hahah I’m dying over the Santa’s head comment. Oh, and I love that little butler’s tray or whatever your mug is sitting on.. makes the first photo even better!
Haha…I love this.
OOOOOO I just love this! SLURP.
Mmmm I’m thinking this might happen Easter morning. Sorry, chocolate bunnies.
It’s so much more refined and adult like to drink your chocolate bunnies. The grown up way to ingest pounds of chocolate on holidays.
BAhahaaa, I think I love you. You melted a headless Santa, and for some reason I can’t stop laughing about it. Better find another one for when I come over for a cup.
A headless Easter bunny is my next victim…hurry on down here before I drink that one, too.
Great photos – makes me want a cup of that pure chocolate goodness right now!
Love how you called Meeker out in bed.
Yum. Now that is an excellent idea.
love this idea…definitely know how i’m going to utilize those chocolate bunnies in a few weeks.
oh my gosh… just the thought of that has me salivating. can we make some of this latenight at blend? I’ll provide the chocolate… and I’ll even leave all the heads on.
I need to make a list of what I’ve got to bring to blend…oat coconut bites, brownies, hot chocolate – I am beyond excited.
Oh my goodness this sounds amazing! I’d love to get that huge bar from Trader Joes and give this a whirl!
Yum, I need to try this!
Hahahaha, I laughed my butt off. And I can’t believe there was still something left. Especially since you told me that you had your whole neighborhood over to sample everything. I really have to change my eating habits (away from eating whole Santas – I’m going for their heads now! THIS will make me as lean as you are
)
Hah, well THANK YOU! And it helps when I hide them from myself in the back of the cupboard.
I always drop a little piece of chocolate in my pre-gym coffee!! After all – im about to go and run it all off of course (apart from those very rare days when I arrive at the gym, do a few lame sit ups and sit in the sauna….)
i have some argentine chocolates with a similar fate on the horizon!! brilliant!
Mmm, I’m excited for you.
yummy! That’s what i’ll do with all those chocolate coins from my Christmas stocking!
You know what was awesome about living in France? That’s what they consider hot chocolate. None of the powdered nonsense. Your recipe is making me nostalgic and hungry at the same time.
That recipe is amazing. Aaaand I think you’ve just sealed the fates of many chocolate bunnies come the day after Easter.
Just needs a splash of frangelico (hazelnut liquor) and I would be one happy lady
Poor santa, Ha.
Love it.
I always make myseld some hot chocolate with melted chocolate, it is so delicious and smooth!
Ooooh….that must be better than Starbucks!
Heck yeah it is.
haha. love it.
Katie – i have been reading your blog for a long time and never wanted to stop what i was doing and go make the exact the same thing you and baby A are into. I wait until later. Today i toast you with my own cup of decapitated Santa coco coffee- 5 mins after reading your post. Cheers!
Gah, you are too funny and too cute! Boo hoo, it makes me sad to eat the heads, so I just gobble the bodies. It’s definitely creepier to have a bunch of heads floating around your cupboards, believe me.
Just boil those heads down to a nice drinkable liquid.
Oooh la la! This looks fabulous! Drinking chocolate is wayyy better than hot chocolate!
oh my holy crap. you just drank santa in a mug. i love this.
Yum! Surely drinks don’t have calories?!
yes, please. i could use a cup of that right about now
You’ve totally stolen my heart.
