Let me start by saying that this story I am going to tell has nothing to do with this salad – which is outstanding and I’ll get to it. Promise.
This story is about football. And you know I don’t give a hoot about football, right?
Except Tim Tebow. I like him. But that doesn’t really have anything to do with his football skills.
Oh, and Peyton Manning – I now like him. Not only because he’s the Bronco’s new quarterback, but because we had dinner together last night. Peyton and I.
Okay, okay, just the same restaurant. BUT I WAS ONLY FEET AWAY FROM THAT TALL, LIKEABLE, WILDLY FAMOUS QUARTERBACK WHO EVERYONE (IN DENVER) HAS BEEN TALKING ABOUT NON-STOP FOR WEEEEEKS.
Ahem. Excuse me.
We went out to dinner at a fancy schmancy steak house for my in-law’s 30th anniversary (happy anniversary Rob and Lee!!). Just so you know, we never go out to dinner. Ever.
But last night we did. We got all gussied up (I was having a good hair day and I wore a new dress!) and had a night out – it was the bessssst.
Made even better when halfway through dinner the restaurant erupted. People whistling, clapping, raising their glasses, and hoopla-ing. I looked around and thought something happened with some basketball game on the television at the bar. BUT THEN…I SAW HIM.
THE PEYTON MANNING. Mere feet away from me and shaking hands with people, smiling, and looking altogether very friendly and awesome. I stared and giggled. Then got my act together and started clapping, too.
That’s what you’re supposed to do when a very famous football player walks into a room, right? Giggle and clap and think oh my gosh, oh my gosh, he’s looking at me, do you think he notices my new dress, my perfectly done hair? Oh wait, he’s married and not nearly as good looking as Tim Tebow. OH WAIT, I’m married to a hunk already and have a gorgeous baby girl that looks like my hunky husband. But it’s PEYTON MANNING. OH my gosh, oh my gosh I have to text everyone I know and tweet about this RIGHT NOW.
Then he went into some private room and although I tried, I didn’t see him for the rest of dinner.
Okay, so this salad was awesome. I bet Peyton Manning would like it.
- arugula
- spinach
- kale, steamed
- sprouts
- avocado
- crunchy asian noodle things
- this dressing that I will never tire of

I’ve always been a big baseball fan, and had a crush on one of the players when I was growing up – similar to how girls my age loved boybands. When I met my favorite player the first time, I was so excited I started crying and shaking – the next time I saw him an autograph signing, I held it together a little bit better, but he said, “Oh I remember you, you’re the girl that cries!”.
Yep.
Oh my gosh, he remembered you?! That’s amazing.
Hahaha!! I bet Peyton would like your salad too
I’m a Denver-ite and am definitely bummed for Tim (also don’t care much about football). My dad who is a football fanatic though, couldn’t be happier with the Broncos new quarterback: Something about winning more games.
How fun that you saw him!! – Kelly
The best part of Peyton Manning showing up is that Lee is so into football it was probably like a great anniversary surprise for her!
It made the night so memorable! We all had a blast!
I’d pick Tim Tebow over Manning any day
You crack me up- I loved reading your play-by-play of thoughts! Isn’t it funny how we can freak like that? Ryan used to play for the Dodgers, so i met a bunch of former players that I had to act cool in front of… very weird feeling!
I would have to practice that skill…I’m so not cool.
OK, so obviously I had to google both of them. I prefer Tim Tebow’s face from the side over Manning, but if Tebow faces you (well, in a picture, that is), I think his cheeks look a little chubby – maybe Baby A made you like that look?
During my time in the states I’ve been to one (!) Super Bowl Party. It has been the only game I’ve EVER seen. And all I did was pick out the best looking players. But that’s just because, as a foreigner, I’ve NEVER understood how in the world this game works, BUT I can shoot field goals
I actually don’t think either one of them is THAT attractive, but Tim Tebow is a just great person and such a good influence in the midst of crud that a lot of professional football players usually find themselves wrapped up in.
Tebow makes me swoon!! Plus, he’s a very good guy!!
Heck yeah. Using his platform as a football player to share the word of God…I’m a fan.
Absolutely awesome story! My husband would have died (well, me too) as we loved watching him with the Colts. What a neat story to tell Adrianne someday!
Your salads always look the best! That is awesome! Even if I saw a celebrity I didn’t like, I think I’d still be too starstruck to even move!
I too love Tim. I don’t know Mr. Manning, at least not as well as you do. But I just sent this post to Pea D because I knew he’d appreciate it. I just like your salad
…and I like your face and your kale salads.
poor tebow. that is SOOO COOL!!!
I WOULD HAVE DIED. LITERALLY DIED. I think I am probably the most jealous person right now. You know how I feel about Peyton…like if he ;ever came knocking…Keith might be out on his butt. HA! Kidding…sort of.
I just kept thinking…OH MY GOSH, I CAN’T WAIT TO TELL KELLY!!!
What a cool experience, I’m glad you got a special treat on a rare night out to eat.
I’m totally not cool when it comes to any kind of celebrity sighting. I was at a work event a couple of years ago that Benjamin Bratt attended and I was like “Ok, be cool, don’t stare, ok just one look, ok now be cool…but I want to look again!”
Wow what a night. We just had Tim here speaking at a church/school, what a great role model and man of God. Since we live in Florida we have some sightings. You need to come visit. Our beach is beautiful as well. Salad looks yummy!
I know nothing of football but I HAVE heard of him.. so cool!
[...] were out to dinner the other night (with Peyton Manning) and she asked me if I had a healthy banana bread recipe I would share with [...]
I wonder if he had a salad with his dinner?
That’s amazing! And the story is on People.com! http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20581112,00.html
Oh my gosh, how funny! I’m fammmouuus!
