Did you all know that I don’t like shopping? Like, at all. The thought of spending money always stresses me out. In fact, I put in a petition last year with my family to cancel Christmas presents.
It didn’t go over well.
But the one thing I DO remember liking as a kiddo when Christmas shopping (or any shopping) was necessary was getting an Orange Julius at the mall. So frothy and tangy.
Dang, I love orange juice.
Did you also know that until I was 18 (and left for college) my dad used to come in my room to wake me up with a glass of orange juice for me to drink in bed every morning?
I know, I know. I was the youngest of three and the only girl – so I’ll admit it, I was spoiled. But to this day, I still like a swig of orange juice in the morning to wake my mouth up.
And an Orange Julius is even better.
Homemade Orange Julius
makes 2
PRINT Recipe
- 1 1/4 C orange juice
- 1/2 C plain greek yogurt
- 2 T powdered sugar
- 2 T milk
- 1/2 t vanilla
- 12-15 ice cubes
Add all ingredients in a blender and blend on high until the ice is crushed and drink is frothy. Actually, I used my food processor because my blender doesn’t crush ice very well.
Enjoy!

Oh my goodness! I haven’t thought about having an orange julius in years! Now, I want one. Thanks for sharing!
That looks so delicious and refreshing! I love anything slurpable is a win in my book. And from the smile on baby As face it look like she agrees! (ps im jealous of her lashes!)
I’m going to start printing and framing photos of Adrienne to decorate my house with. that’s how much I love that little booger.
Ahaha, I want to come over and help you do that…
These look so good. I’ve never had an Orange Julius but now I want to make these ones at home! Thanks for sharing the recipe…and that super cute pic of baby A.
Orange Julius was the one thing I always got excited about when I went to the mall with my parents. It was right by the entrance, and I always had to wait until we finished whatever we were doing before they would buy me one. It was sooo hard!
Your dad sounds like he’s a bit like my dad
Getting an Orange Julius at Chapel Hills mall was the thing to do – I personally preferred the strawberry banana flavor.
Hah, Chapel Hills! I’m right there with you…
Oh man, I could totally go for one of those right now! Whenever I drank OJ as a kid, I HAD to have 3 ice cubes in it (no more, no less) otherwise it was essentially ruined for me. Kids are weird, huh?
Oh goodness, I did love orange julius until I worked there (first job weooo!). Um, yah horror stories haha. Let’s just say I’d waaay rather make this than have one there! And baby A is just the cutest!!
Hah, don’t tell me the stories!
I also tried to cancel Christmas presents with my family… with no luck.
Maybe we should have a presentless Christmas together…?
Funny, I posted an Orange Julius recipe a while back and talked about my same memory of getting one every year around Christmas when we did our Christmas shopping. It’s what I looked forward to most:)
Have a great weekend Katie!
You too, Kristy!
Omg, too precious. I too am not a fan of shopping. I love getting new things, but trying on clothes all day gets super annoying.
Sometimes I think you read my mind. I was just thinking yesterday of how I needed to find a good Orange Juilus recipe for the girls because they’ve never had them. Afterschool snack, here we come!
Have a great weekend, hon!
How did you know, I WAS reading your mind. Creepy? Enjoy!
Delicious!! And that is so sweet of your dad- love that.
Your baby is UHDORABLE. I wanna your baby. AND your smoothie : ) Hope that’s not creepy.
Not at all…I feel the same way.
Your dad was so sweet.. that could also be the reason you adore orange juice.. what an act of love! I’m just going to have to try this. As always.. I also adore your little sweetheart!!
Spending money stresses me out too! My husband buys me cosmetics and I attack him with questions like ‘omg – how much did this COST? You know it’s a long month til pday day this month and and and’. Great wife. Your OJ looks so fresh and delish.
i haven’t had an orange julius in ages! i definitely like this version better.
Love those! Do they still have Orange Julius at the mall? I don’t know, I’m a non-shopper too!
I have no idea, either!
What a sweet Dad you had! We still have an Orange Julius at our mall. I can’t drink them anymore because of allergies, but my son gets one every time we’re there.
My sister in law is also a “non” shopper. I can’t really imagine it…I love to shop and it’s a wonderful form of therapy!
Blah, you can do my shopping for me.
I tried to cancel Christmas presents with my family too!!! It didn’t go over so well on my end either…I don’t understand why they don’t see it as THE BEST idea ever!
I need to hate spending money MORE–it’s way too easy for me to spend it on things, especially gifts for people!
Yuuuummmmm, I never was a big fan of Orange Julius, but my mom totally was. Maybe I should make this for her!
Yes, do it! If my memory serves me correctly, it’s pretty dang close to the original!
Just made this and it is SUPER delicious! Thank you for the recipe!
I am so glad, thank you for letting me know!
I also petitioned my family to ban Christmas present for everyone under the age of 12. We have one 18-month old (my nephew) who’d be getting ALL the presents.
I did not win.
Never heard of a Julius but it sounds delicious!
It is – you must try it! If you like oranges…
I will!
1 – Adrienne looks super cute in that first picture!
2 – That orange julius is making my mouth water. It’s currently 80 degrees where I am, so I could really use a cold drink right now! Haha!
80 degrees?! Ahh…it was snowing here yesterday! Send me some of that sun…
My nephew would love this! I need to give this recipe to my sis-in-law for sure.
That face! Gets me every time.
