The girl loves reading. I’m pretty happy about it. When we are at home, we are never more than two-feet away from a book. There are some that make me sigh when Adrienne claps her hands, holds the book up and says mo-mo (more, more). But there are some I’m thrilled to read again and again.
So if you’re looking for books to please a one-year-old little bookworm – that are worthy of 10x a day readings – here are some of our favorites:
Dr. Suess’s ABC (my favorite to read)
How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight? (her all time favorite)
Oh My Baby, Little One (my mom gave A this one. I cry every time I read it, but a good cry – not like Love You Forever – heavens, I can’t even make it through the first few pages of that one.)
I Can Read with My Eyes Shut Tight
The Monster at the End of This Book
And to Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street
The Very Hungry Caterpillar (obviously)
My Very First Bible (the illustrations in this one are fantastic)
Is Your Mama a Llama? (this is the first book I read to A, the day we came home from the hospital)
Oh, and special mention. I made a book about our family on shutterfly – just pictures of faces and names – that is a HUGE hit. Adrienne can pretty much read it to us now.

can.not.take.it.
Ugh, cuteness overload. She’s going to be so intelligent (obviously already is)!
Love your list! And we have almost all of them!
I would add Chicka Chicka Boom Boom – a must have!
Gah, we don’t have that one! But I remember loving it as a kiddo. I’ll have to get it at the library next time I’m there.
When I was a preschool teacher in college we would read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom almost everyday during reading circle by request. The whole class would yell “CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM!” whenever it was time to in the book. Definitely a fun read.
I teach 5th grade, and they STILL talk about that book! I think everyone knows Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! I guess we all have enough room for it in our hearts!
she is the cutest baby ever. my mom use to tell me i loved to read the same 3 books over and over so at least she likes variety!
I’m trying to remember what book I sent you from Piggy Toes last year. Does she read that one? I don’t work there anymore, so it won’t offend me if she doesn’t!!
Actually YES…she does love that one! But she doesn’t want me to read it to her…she just likes to flip through the page and feel all those cool textures. I should definitely add it to the list.
making a book of family members’ pictures and names is such a great idea!!
p.s. I love the new look to the blog!
I love the Shutterfly book idea…I have heard that is a really great teaching tool for toddlers. (Obviously…Mrs. Unger would know that! ha!) I remember Green Eggs & Ham was one of my all time faves when I was a kid. And I loved Shel Silverstein’s Where The Sidewalk Ends and A Light In The Attic.
Green Eggs and Ham is my favorite! But it’s painfully loooong when you’re reading to a squirmy little one-year old. I’m so looking forward to when we can sit and read longer (more interesting) stories together.
Cuteness! I love reading to my nieces… and having them “read” to me. Although Veronica will be reading for real soon, I’m sure. I love that you enjoy every moment with your little A, Katie!
Are you my mother was a have of ours and Would you love me if….(not the title) but it was so cute! I would change my voice. The photo book did you make pics of your sweet momma? I did that once! xoxxo We just heart you! Come to the beach!!! This winter…next spring?
Yes, I actually have a whole “Grammy Book” of my mom…things she liked, things she said all the time. It’s a special one for sure.
I LOVE ‘Are You My Mother’!! That was definitely a favorite growing up; I would always read it when i was at my grandma’s house.
Love this!! I can’t wait to read with my kids.
how CUTE! love this. some of those books you mentioned takes me back to my childhood.
love, love, love!!
I think the overalls without the shirt underneath is my absolute favorite one of all
SO SWEET. Maybe she’ll become a teacher too!
Happy Friday, friend!
Your dad used to read “Green Eggs and Ham” to me all the time, because it was my favorite book. Pretty sweet big brother!! Still is.
Seriously… she is too cute! Thanks for the list. I’m filing it away for the future!
Ahhhhh cuteness! I wish they made adult versions of Baby A’s clothes. So cute!
I know! Those overalls…my favorite.
So. Much. Cuteness.
My dad used to read The Giving Tree to my brother and I constantly – it’s one of my favorite memories from being little. I still have that book too, the pages are almost completely worn out.
We still love and read most of those books! Wait until she’s ready for Mo Willems (Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and Elephant + Piggie books). Those are our favorites!
Happy Friday!
Oh the Elephant + Piggie books….I’ve heard SO many good things about them!!
Such a little cutie! I’m happy Lyric is a bookworm too. I’m really into reading as well and I’m excited to share my favorites with her.
Thanks for the recommendations!
Cute! I love the book you about about family. What a great way to look back at memories.
We always had tons of books growing up and I’m sure it’s the reason why I still read so much today!
i mean….im almost in tears over this.
there are no words katie. no words. you have the cutest baby ever. period.
Those photos are all soooooooo so soso precious x10. Makes me want a little baby now! (even when my real brain wants one in 5+ more years
)
I know I’ve mentioned this before but our girls would have so much fun together! She is a book lover as well. We make a weekly trip to the library too. My husband, just the other day said, “I am so happy you’ve gotten our kids so in love with books, b/c I definitely haven’t done it -it’s all you sweetie!”
Aah….
My 1 year old will sometimes sit for all of ‘A Sick Day for Amos McGee’. Love it. Worth a look if you don’t already know it.
Shoe La La and Llama llama red pajama!,
Are you familiar with GOD THOUGHT OF IT FIRST by Joan Keener? That was an absolute favorite of my kids (and mine). Highly recommend!
Also NOAH’S ARK by Lucy Cousins. Oh my, I must have read that 10,000 times. “Again, again, again!”, said my oldest son. It’s a cute one.
We just picked up How Do Dinosaurs Learn Their Colors today at the library. Will’s favorite right now is Ten Little Ladybugs. And I love Dr. Suess’s ABCs.
you must read the rainbow fish! seriously one of the most gorgeous books of all time! i still remember the first time i read it when i was a kiddie i was in awe of all the beautiful colors!
That’s so awesome that she’s into books that much. I hope my little baby is, too! I loved reading as a child, too, and my husband thinks it’s crazy that I still remember all the different books I used to read. I want the same for my child, too
My favourite: ‘The little kitten who sucked her thumb.’ Mainly my fave, because I used to suck my thumb haha
I am going to have to get that one, Adrienne is a thumb sucker, too!!
Just kill me. Love her!! The family book is such a good idea- I’m definitely putting that one on the list (for the distant future)
I was a little bookworm too, and despite the fact that I took a vacation from being one in 9th grade through senior year of college, I’m happy to report I’m back on the bookworm train that I was on from birth
she is so cute! Goodnight Moon is a classic. I highly recommend “I Love You Forever”, a classic from my childhood.
