…and beans.
You know when you have 1/4 cup leftover of this, 1/3 cup or that…not enough to make a recipe out of, but too much to throw away?
I put them all in a big mixing bowl (with some toys) and set it and Adrienne on the front porch one morning last week…
The girl was engrossed.
That’s the only word I can think of to describe her reaction to this bowl. She played – uninterrupted – for a solid thirty minutes. I tried to play with her and ask her questions a couple of times and she wouldn’t even GLANCE at me. She was sifting, stirring, pinching, burying, and throwing things all over the place.
If you need us, we’ll be on the porch with a bowl of uncooked grains…and beans.

What a great idea! And too precious!!!
Haha I should do that for my little niece next time I see her!
Ps. I’ve started tutoring this little third grader and its SO fun! It makes me think of your old teaching posts which the stuff she says to me.;)
i love your mommy style. it’s hippy. it makes me smile and wish we lived close to do playdates.
Sensory bins are all the rage lately. I have a billion in my room and it’s the first thing my boys go to! <3
Has to be more fun than sand! Did she try to eat any of it?
That is an awesome idea! She clearly agreed.
I love all of your crafty ideas for A.. Your such a fun mom!
Love!
AHaahaha…can I have a bowl? Seems therapeutic! That hat?? I die.
I need to log all of these ideas for the day (in the distant future) when I start having babies! So smart and creative : ) .
Fabulous idea!
i love your ideas for entertaining kiddos – so simple and so genius!
this is great!
i want to be a toddler. and then i want you to be my mom. because you are the most fun.
thats hilarious! ive heard from SO many people that their kids dont even bother with the pricey toys. cheap crap that youd normally throw away – like measuring cups and boxes – do the trick. i remember playing with all my moms leftover spice containers.
ps A is growing up so fast!!! she looked so tall in the photo of her w her cousins! and that hat!!! too precious.
Ummm her hat!!! So so cute. She looks like she’s absolutely having a ball.
You’re such a good Mama. A is just so lucky to have you
And that hat? It just completely slays me. Love you friend!
i did this when I was younger! my mom always put toys in a big bowl of dried rice…I love the way it felt!
Remind me never to eat rice at your house. Or beans.
that hat, that face, those pajamas!!!!!
What an adorable idea! But it totally makes sense, I’m sure to her it’s like playing in the sand.
She is precious!
I am pretty sure if I did that with Elijah, he would eat the foot and the crayons without much regard for the toys. Ahh boys!
