I used to have a student in my class who told me that for everyone’s birthday in his family, they had fancy grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner.
I had him explain to me what that meant, and I learned that it was basically a grilled cheese on nice french bread. Genius for a family of three young kids, right?
And it’s kind of weird…but I think about this boy and his birthday dinner a lot. Like every time I want a grilled cheese. Which is at least once a week.
I’ve never taken the extra five mintues to make it fancy. Until now.

Mustard + Pear Grilled Cheese Sandwich
PRINT Recipe
- 3 T butter, divided
- 1 medium pear
- 2 T whole grain mustard
- 4 slices of cheddar cheese
- 4 slices of good quality french bread (I made my own)
Melt 1 1/2 T butter in a small skillet. Slice the pear into thin slices and sauté in the melted butter for 2-3 minutes (you’re going to FREAK at how good these are, try not to eat them all before they make it to the sandwich). Set aside.
Spread the remaining 1 1/2 T butter on one side of two slices of bread. On the other sides, spread the mustard. Then layer the pears and cheese and put together
.
Either put into a panini press or into a skillet, grilling on both sides until the bread is browned and the cheese is melted.

I think we all should take the time to make ourselves a fancy grilled cheese sandwich once in awhile!
ahh, what a cute birthday idea. I love doing apple and hard cheddar grilled cheese so i bet this is even better. Can you make a cookbook now, please?
hugs.
hungry!
It is 8:15, and I am at work, and now I REALLY want a grilled cheese.
This is the PERFECT sandwich in my opinion!
First, I am so impressed by that bread! Second…there is something about grilled cheese. I might like it more than cookies…in fact, I think I do. Whenever I make one, I immediately want a second. The countdown to lunch is on.
I can’t have dairy anymore and I must say grilled cheese is about the only thing I truly miss about that…and queso…and ice cream…ok, maybe lots of things.
your photos are gorgeous! The sandwich looks delicious..I think I might substitute some apple for the pear because i’m not the biggest fan of pears..but YUM. I’m all about a fancy grilled cheese!
Just pinned this delicious looking concoction! I would have never thought to combine mustard, pear and cheddar, but now that I’m looking at it…it looks like a match made in heaven! Kudos for making your own bread, too
I bet that makes it SO much better.
Yum! I love me some grilled cheese!
How are you so awesome?
loooove grilled cheese this time of year. i think i need a make me a fancy one!
They sound super duper good… I love apple and cheese and Id probably love pear and cheese EVEN MORE.
Grilled cheese is my #1 favorite meal. Yes, I’m nine (at heart, at least).
Fancy grilled cheese, I totally get it! My boyfriend’s mom makes us paninis (which pretty much the epitome of fancy grilled cheese) when we visit, and she loads them up with mustard. Such a good combo.
I’ve been making a grilled cheese a couple times a week for a couple weeks now and I seriously cannot get enough. I love this grown-up version though – maybe I’ll even change out of my yoga pants while I eat it
Stunning! I’m a grilled cheese fool. Love this combo!
I love this!!! Grilled cheeses are awesome no matter what your age!

No longer are backlinks and simply pinging or sending out a RSS feed the key to getting Google PageRank or Alexa Rankings, You now NEED On-Page SEO. So what is good On-Page SEO?First your keyword must appear in the title. Then it must appear in the URL.You have to optimize your keyword and make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article with relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing). Then you should spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article.Your Keyword should appear in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page. You should have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword. There should be one internal link to a page on your blog and you should have one image with an alt tag that has your keyword….wait there’s even more Now what if i told you there was a simple WordPress plugin that does all the On-Page SEO, and automatically for you? That’s right AUTOMATICALLY, just watch this 4minute video for more information at. Seo Plugin
